Hope I'm posting in the right section..

Like the subject says, does anybody have a source for the dimensions of the M1917 (receiver) ?
Someone said I should just use the M1919 specs but the receivers don't look that similar to me. The sights for starters.

Thanks

The receivers are virtually the same, just one '17 is water cooled, and the '19 is air cooled.

Obviously, the sights on each respective model are completely different, though...

So If I just leave out the sights, going for the dimensions of the '19 would be correct yes?

Yes.

As the war ended, the US army settled on the Browning M1917 as the primary infantry machine gun. However, the cavalry requested a lighter weapon, still capable of sustained fire, and this was provided in the form of modified Browning machine gun, known as M1919. This weapon retained the basic action of the M1917 water-cooled gun, but had a shorter, air-cooled barrel, and used a light and compact tripod without traverse & elevation mechanisms.

So yeah, the M1917 and M1919 receivers are identical, only the barrels and sights need to be changed.

Ah I am an old git that knows the old classics

Not particularly a WW2 song but from an extremely popular movie of the WW2 period.
The song is now the official song of the US 7th Cavalry.
