A little surprised no one has mentioned today's anniversary.. June 6th . I still remember when I first visited the Normandy beaches when I was five and my Father tried to explain D Day... I just liked all the cool bunkers..
Shit, that was nearly 45 years ago..
For me that is..
Not the the brave men that perished..
On both sides..
'Non adepto demens. Adepto etiam'
War does not show who is right, only who is left..
I don't think it was to dark..
Maybe just to close to the Jubilee and what is going on in Europe and Syria to have warranted a mention in the press or on the Beeb...
68 years is a long time after all..
Bollocks .. I take that all back..
If this generation cannot remember one of the most important days of world History, what hope is there for us all.. As the old phrase goes, Less we forget..
Maybe if we remembered more of what happened then, we as nations wouldn't accept atrocities still going on around the world today.
'Non adepto demens. Adepto etiam'
War does not show who is right, only who is left..
On a personal note, my interest in WW2 means there's not many days/weeks were i dont think/read/watch about something connected to the period. It is a bad state of affairs that the lndings arent commemorated however, the general public tend to focus on the Novemeber rememberance sunday.
Regardless, here's to the men who landed on and defended those beaches. I'll certainly drink to them.
We timed our Dirty Dozen game to fit in with history and mark the date accurately.
Even the weather was similar in an annoying way.
For me in the North West June is always a quiet time when nothing happens to commemorate June 6th so putting on an event seemed perfect but many had other things to do over the bank holiday weekend.
