sold the book in my window on Wojtek the Bear (which I had ordered for me to be honest) to a descendent of a soldier from the Polish Independent Parachute Brigade, who is a regular customer, so got to learn that residents of my village are more interesting then they first look, and have a nice chat about the Polish experience of the war. This is a good day.

I had the best birthday for a long time. I had for a present an 1hr flight in a 737 simulator, flying from Heathrow to the Maldives then onto Las Vagas at night and finally take off at HK new airport landing at the old airport TI Tac and flying back to the new one again all in real time. Fantastic.................
Lt. Morris Schaffer: "Second rate punk," eh?
Major John Smith: Sorry. All I could think of on the spur of the moment.
Lt. Morris Schaffer: Thanks, that makes it even worse.
After waiting since late October for my order from airsoft tiger for my stainless steel barrel to come I finally got it today and fitted it in my BAR, a nice barrel for $20 US but a hell of a long wait for it

...am watching an interesting program about the dambusters on channel 4. I urge you to check it out (it might be on 4od or youtube), as it is very interesting. Also because the bouncing bomb used backspin, you learn why hop-up works too!
Watched it myself. Think that the pilot was probably as old as the aircraft he was flying!
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Was watching that as well I new about the back spin I am not sure if it was in the movie as it may have still been top secret then.
Changed my tank battery today and also gave it high temperature silicone brake fluid to help steering.
Just got to test it.

...Watched Enemy at the Gates for the first time! I did pay paritular attention to the kit thanks to all you guys infecting me with a small dose of rivet counting!
I did pay paritular attention to the kit
I tend to find myself paying attention to the delightful Ms Weisz I want one of those big Megaphones.
The Panzer IIIs are very well done, and it seems a bit of a shame they appear so briefly.

... decided to clear excess kit cluttering the garage - starting with kit that is too small (why have I kept it anyway?), pistols I don't use and all US gear.
And also finally decided to vote for the status quo in the AV referendum - it was a struggle to come down on one side or another as both have pluses and minuses. All a bit strange really as we are supposed to vote for the local candidate who we think would best represent us in parliament, not for the party to govern the country. Meh, its a bit of a muddle really, perhaps full proportional representation and compulsory voting should have been what the referendum was about.

Really? I'll be honest I have not been able to think of any serious pluses for it.
Edit: for FPTP that is.
If there were no pluses for either argument then we wouldn't be having a referendum!

Amen to that, but I'll be voting yes in the hope that it puts us on the path to PR, rather than denying any further referendums on electoral reform for a generation.
Yeah a "no" vote will almost certainly kick out any chance of PR in the future.
Also, I've yet to find any good argument for NO2AV apart from that AV would probably screw up the Conservatives and BNP, so if you're a major supporter of either of those then go ahead and vote NO. If you like any other party, then you'd probably be better off with AV.
The Conservatives and BNP know this, hence why they're pushing for a NO vote.
Oh and I'm 100% voting "yes"...

TBH I think if you see merit in PR proper then this is the only argument for voting yes. Both sides have failed spectacularly to drum up enthusiasm or make deal breaking solid arguments, with vested interests being behind both 'sides'. Governments are currently decided either by landslides or by marginal constituencies, this won't change with AV and I don't think AV will make coalitions any more (or less) likely. Frankly, where there is a strong 'natural' vote in a constituencies people of another persuasion vote tactically anyway by voting for a second favourite if their first preference hasn't a hope of winning, so a sort of AV thing going on there in any case.
I'm still not sure why people who vote for the biggest loser should get a second chance to vote - I think THOSE should be voided as practically speaking only those who vote for weirdos, cranks and ne'er-do-wells will have their alternative choice taken into account in the choice of MP!

That's certainly not the case in Chesterfield, my constituency, where in 2010, Labour won with only a tiny margin over the lib dems who'd had the seat before. The labour votes did not change and the votes the lib dems lost can, almost to a single vote, be accounted for in the increase in conservative votes. My belief is that incorrect tactical voting lead to the defeat of the lib dems. I think that people were listening to the national campaign from the conservatives that a vote for lib dem was a vote for labour, which didn't apply in Chesterfield at all.
If you look at the votes as shown here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/cons ... esterfield you'd have to knock all of the minor parties and the conservatives out to for one of the two front runners to get 50% of the vote and things could have been very different.
How do you know what their second choices might have been?
No, I still contend that allowing someone who voted Monster Raving Looney (other parties available) shouldn't be given the chance to swing a seat by their second choice (as might happen if it only went to a second round). As for people voting 'incorrectly' - how can that be? They vote for who they want to vote for - if they try to second guess, vote tactically or vote with their hearts it's their choice.
I don't know how they would vote for their second choice, but wouldn't it be nice to have known? AV gives that chance.
As for the "incorrect" voting. I find it hard to believe that in a constituency that has been Labour or Lib Dem for as long as I can remember with Conservatives as 3rd place, the conservatives would gain an almost exact number of votes as the lib dems lost without tactical voting being involved. The major national tactical voting push was for people to do that to keep labour out, which I think is what a lot of people wanted.
I really think that some people didn't pay any attention to what was going on in their own constituency and just followed the national trend which was wrong for chesterfield.
Of course I have no proof of this as we were using the crappy fptp system.
AV basically would do away with tactical voting almost completely and that has to be an amazingly huge plus for it.
