once you have the mp40 arms blued then i recommend a clear lacquer as they mark up really easy and its a bit sole destroying after all the work getting them nice. the barrel is anodised not painted ,if i had known that i would have left it alone as again it marks up really easy after bluing .

The arms do tend to scratch easily, I'll look into replacing those too at some point. If I can get into the cnc lathe I might be able to run up a few barrels in aluminium.

Picked up a load of wood finishing products and oils today to start on my Garand stock, waiting for my next project to arrive! :good:

Got my K98's delivered and finished oiling the stock on my Garand, its still running on M14 mags at the moment, I still have to make an adapter. Don't want to irreparably alter 20 shotgun mags as I have a nice shotgun that works well. Why make 20 parts when one will do? :D
Finally repaired all the leaking seals on my 1911 and it kicks like a mule now!

Taken out of context, that could be seen as a bit dodgy.....

Hope the Daily Mail aren't reading this.

Started taking apart the K98's to convert into a VSR hybrid. As I'm stripping the stock to re-stain the wood and I'm going to properly blue the metal I'm taking it all down. Does anyone know how to remove the discs in the butt and the little discs at the front of the bolt?

use a flat blade screwdriver , insert it in the hole and rest it on the edge of the disk on the other side and tap the screw driver with a mallet , they are only glued in and come out easy , the front ones i remove by drilling a small hole through the wood behind them from the inside where it's unseen and place a punch or narrow screwdriver into the hole so it rests on the metal piece and again tap it out with a mallet. its so much better to remove them before rubbing down and easier as well as you don't have to work around them.

Thanks. I figured it'd be something like that. Wouldn't have been the first time I've cut/chiselled/blowtorched something apart only to find a small grub screw on the now ruined part!
On a related note, does anyone have the link to the full conversion tutorial? All I seem to be able to turn up is the bolt mod part.

Thanks! I could've sworn I saw a tutorial that was just one person's full build but it might have been Kalashnikovkid's abandoned one. Ah well I guess I'll do my own!
