Did some more work on a layout model of the british museum.
Not really WW2 related but it just happens to be in scale for Flames of war games so I may take a cast or two for personal use!
Also found a nice sketch of one of my relations in the national archives. Just wish I could track down more info.

Went to an open day and got boiled in battledress. No more meteorological denial, I have a few weeks of KD weather left before it's really 'Autumn' here.

went to the Cabinet War Rooms museum thingy. I actually thought it was a bit rubbish for the money. Lots of original shmutter spoiled by having stupid 1970s mannequins in the displays and not enough info on all the exhibits.

There's an audio tour device where you press the button to have Andrew Sachs tell you about what you're seeing, but it's not very well done IMHO. On the one hand there's some stuff that I found fascinating- the officer's wartime sugar ration that had been stashed in a drawer and was only discovered in 1971, the lightswitch that some RE fella had rigged into an electric cigarette lighter and the secret booth with Churchill's private line to FDR disguised as a toilet that was always "engaged".

On the other hand the tour assumed a level of knowledge that I did't have. It's no good looking at Admiral Sir Hugo "Binky" Binklesworth's commode if you don't know who the hell he was.

Have packed my kit for the training day. Amazing, how much stuff there is! (considering I'm only carrying a bergen and belt kit! Yet, there is a mountain of other "organiser" stuff :slap: ).

Had to restitch the Russian belts I'm making for Wladek and Lardy about 4 times as I kept on doing it wrong.

I can only think it was one of three reasons: the booze I'd drunk, tiredness or being distracted by X-Men Origins : Wolverine.... actually it was probably all 3.

One time I looked at what I had done. Despaired that I'd done it wrong yet again, started to cut the threads I'd made, then came to my senses and realised I'd actually done it right... but by then it was too late and I had cut too much and to start again! Gah!

Anyway, they're now fully stitched and looking pretty damn good.

Ouch - and you have just bought from the States too! I've been done several times over the years one way or another and the banks have been very quick to refund.
