Thought it might be worth making this clear as there are a few styles of game and this would be a good reference.
Ill start with mine.
Limited ammo 300rnd
300rnds of ammo loaded in mags means you can carry Example:3x100rnds mid caps or 1x 240rnd high cap (you can reload them at any time as long as you are at an ammo crate/regen so keep and carry all you ammo on you) If you take out any more ammo loaded in mags eg:350 rnds you are cheating.
4bbs per thumb push on all bb hand loaders.
Limited ammo per life Xrnds
You can only reload you X when you die.
Limited ammo per Day Xrnds
You can only carry X rounds on and can load when you like but once all your ammo is gone for the day, thats it!
Real steal - See the real steal rules.
Nearly all these styles of ammo restriction have a possible re-load somewhere in the game. See game brief.
Any more, admin just update this front page!
One thing I am worried about is guys tinking they get 300 for the weekend and thats it, Thats not my game!

I think I've only ever player two games with a 'whole day' limit.
One was Hauptmann Horn where we had 600 (!) rounds, plus a supply cannister with even more ammo in it. I fired 40 BBs all day.
The other was last years rifles only game where we had 100, but each sides CO dished out resupply as needed between each mission. I got through about 150 then.
Otherwise it has always been bog standard Airsoft 'reload when you regen or find a crate' stuff.
Cheers

It's usually just someone breaking the 1st Rule.
It's there to stop people going...

etc..
i.e. people don't run out cos the risk of running out makes them be much more careful with their ammo. Which just makes the game better...
I actually like running out. It makes things far more intense and interesting when you're scrabbling around for ammo and hoping to make your last few shots count.
I like all day ammo limits too but as Martins says they're not often used and at neither of the two I've been to have i come anywhere close to running out.
What I will be running from now on will be low ammo, probably real steal, with a finite amount you can 'run out of' during the day.
I have found 200 too much if you want the 'tension of being low on ammo', the need for re-supply and re-enforcements - so it is going to be 100 or so.
EDIT: steel, but I quite like the nicking it idea too.

Yup, I will be bringing that limit down for sure
Does real steal mean you pinch ammo off the enemy?
Does real steal mean you pinch ammo off the enemy?
thank you Mr Chomley
Does real steal mean you pinch ammo off the enemy?
Is it similar to reel steal, which is theft amongst fishermen?
Does real steal mean you pinch ammo off the enemy?
And what about their boots and gloves?

I once did a "scene" divided WW2 scenario day (in Denmark), where we achieved the "Oh, shit i'm running low" experience by not letting one of the sites reload between two scenes. The background history was that the german platoon was counterattacked right after taking a small farm in the previous "scene", meaning they did not have any time to resupply. It worked quite nicely in giving them an experience of being low, while not specifying any particular limit.
