Now the website is running nicely and the forum updated I have now moved on to Facebook to complete the triangular structure. The website pulls in latest topics from the forum, the website pulls in Facebook friends, Facebook pulls in news topics from the website.
In time, as the 'friends' count increases so should the exposure of WW2 airsoft to a new audience and there should be something for everyone now - the website with a high Google ranking for disseminating information, news and game promotion but no end-user interaction; forum for game bookings, detailed end-user interaction, sales and questions; Facebook for topical news, promotion and light end-user interaction.
The URL for the Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/WW2Airsoft
I can see a "like" icon but no "friend" icon
...sorry, but even the terminology makes my skin crawl.
Heh, I'm with you on the cringyness but hey, it's the future.
The 'like' on the box on the sidebar adds you as a 'fan'
When you are on the Facebook page it will show you how many of your own 'friends' circle have also 'liked' - the website sidebar display of faces seems to depend on whether you are logged in to Facebook or not.
'Social' icons at the bottom of each page flag up the page to the clicker's friends as something of interest (the Google +1 also adds info to Google search pages and is also taken into account in their ranking algorithms).
The first of those 'social' icons - Print Friendly - allows you to print off just the content of that page without extraneous headers, sidebar or footer, saves ink and is a useful alternative to just whacking the Print command and ending up with everything you see on screen
I just don't understand facebook I cant see what use it is and it seems so poorly laid out.

Yes, appealing interface, and a load of wasted time trying to get the bloody thing to do what I want. It has clear signs of having just grown and been added to - it could well do with an overhaul of menus for admin - stuff is all over the place and not clearly sign posted. Anyway, 'tis done for the moment!
What's FB for? Hmmm, I struggle on that one myself, personally. But in this case though it is about broadening the reach of WW2 Airsoft, pushing news and events in front of those who do use FB.
You see, some people hate forums. Forums are OK for chat, advice, booking events and so on but are really poor at disseminating information (it's bloody hard to find stuff quickly and easily, often needing endless searches if you don't know your way around) and that's where the website comes in - clear structure, no chat or other confusion (or opinion!).
So, the Facebook thing is a means to an end, another tool in the box if you like.
I find it very handy for friends and family around the world, also handy for a quick chat with my mum also a good place to promote things on, Ive had more hits on my music, vids etc using it, also another place to spread the word about WW2 airsoft
Yup, it's been pretty good for me to see what my friends are up to and occasionally link up with groups and stuff. A great way to share photos with your pals... etc... I do find I have to remove all the "games" people play... easy enough and now I only get stuff I'm at least slightly interested in.
I was the first person to "Like" the new group.
The problem is facebook's layout is just so kack it looks like some school kid designed it
I did click on "like this" today but it didn't do anything and as for telling me where or how to log in well I got bored looking for it.

Private grouping on Facebook has been good for when I've been organising the film. As people have become involved I've been adding them and putting up information on the group to keep them informed. Not just reenactors but theatrical make up artists, camera men and assistants.
Show me a man who will jump out of an airplane, and I'll show you a man who will fight!
