i know it might sound odd but i know how little things can make or break a nice looking uniform.

what is commonly worn underneath the woolen shirts because i've seen pictures of all sorts, were they worn buttoned up constantly and finally is the rolled up sleeves thing just a holywood dreaming.

quick question on the gaiters aswell, when did these start being issued instead of the jackboots

Ta muchly, just starting my german heer loadout so any other advice is welcom aswell :good:

Tom

Yes, any collarless shirt (not a T-shirt!) is fine under a tunic. I got a couple of post-war ones cheap off ebay. For just a couple of quid, you can also get a Kragenbinde off ebay - a strip of cloth which buttons onto the inside neck of the tunic. (You might have to move the buttons to the right place.) A little bit of detail that will definitely enhance your look.

Rolled up sleeves is not a Hollywoodism at all - check out pics of the Polish, French, Benelux and Russian campaigns - the split sleeves were designed for it. Top button of the tunic undone, and top of the tunic folded back is also a very common look.

Gaiters and low boots - yes, started replacing jackboots from mid-war onwards. If you can afford jackboots, I would get them. There are all sorts of cheaper boots you can find on ebay or sometimes Epic Militaria.

reading that back i dont know why i put shirts haha, tunic it is then :good:

glad i can have rolled up sleeves, just seems more confortable to me. i thought i'd seen a few photo's but thought i'd best check.
found some shirts that are similar in colour to the grey of the tunics so would they be fine?

quick question about bling, the red one that seems to fasten onto a button and be tucked inside, what is that for as it seems to be quite common.

dont think i'll be getting jackboots for a while so gaiters and some old boots it is untill next year.

Cheers for the help so far guys

Sounds like you're referring to the ribbon for the Iron Cross 2nd class.

If you're going for gaiters and low boots, then I recommend Richard Underwood repros. Post war ones do not look the same.

i wont be getting an iron cross then haha, just bog standard infantary is my aim. thanks for the tip about the czech ones :good: will be ordering everything once christmas is out of the way and i know where i stand with money again.

looking forward to some more ww2 events next year.

another enlightening point, from what i've read on here there are two types of german webbing, Y-straps and A-frames, is one early war and then replaced with the latter? (im not too good on my german side of things, so now is the perfect time to buff up a little and learn some choice german phrases for later)

Sorry, I should have clarified - I was referring to gaiters and not low boots. Boots are obviously an expensive item, so you can initially get away with most low boots.

well i have an old pair of black modern boots and my US jump boots so either of thos will have to do. was it common for germans to scrounge the jump boots as i know they were a sought after item on the yank side.

read the article and got a list of everything to be ordered come new year, can you think if i've missed anything?

m36 field service tunic, m40 wool trousers and eiter a elmet or ski cap (depends what budget allows)
leather belt and buckle, ammo pouches, Y-straps, gaiters, gas mask tin and water bottle...

oh and i ave a zeltbahn already as a "souvonier" from para loadout

A breadbag would be useful, possibly more so than a gas mask tin, I do play german occasionally and I've never bothered with my gas mask tin although it does give a more iconic look.

Yes very iconic, also good for your gas bottle if your using a rifle, or extra water bottle if using AEG :good:

I have never seen a picture of a German wearing anything but issued German boots. For now, I would say to use your modern boots. I would also make the helmet a priority over some other kit, like the water bottle - many airsofters wear ski caps, but troops in combat wore helmets - unless you're going for the POW look! If you can't afford it all, then postpone the gas mask tin and get a breadbag for about £12. In fact, since you're going for the M36 tunic, with internal suspenders and belt hooks you don't actually need Y-straps initially, either.

Unless you've got a spare D ring, you'll need a breadbag to clip your water bottle to anyway. You will need some ammo pouches to clip your Y straps too, unless you've got (yet more) spare D rings.

I would also get a helmet over other types of headgear and accessories.

German gaiters are quite loose fitting and go on fine over both British Army assault boots, and British combat highs, The BCHs look a bit more like WW2 boots, but really, boots are boots.

Cheers

ok, so scrap the gas mask tin and other bits and get the helmet first, and i'll probably get the bread bag as first acesorry to carry the bits and bats. no gas though, have a mistrust/ hatred of gas.

boots are boots i like it  i suppose no one will be able to tell if i've gaiters on already.

thanks for all your help guys, now i just need to find a k98 to do the drop in and lots of spare mags as i wont be making it sniper power so can still get upclose
