From Ed:

Hi Stephen,

No problem with site visit that weekend. I will be busy all the Sat am until event start at 1200hrs but will have time free then to be able to show you the area we are using. I won't be able to show you any more of the training areas as they are all in use & many are live fire cleared for that weekend. For the purposes of your event the Acksea complex i am using will be great.

If the 19th is ok you will need to be on site with all others by 1030-1100hrs (TBC). You will enter the training area with the main party in your own vehicle. This can be temporarily left on the area while I show you around. Don't forget eye protection as the event will be ongoing while you are on site.

I am still waiting final clearance from MOD on the WW2 issue. Have heard def no SS uniforms or regalia though. Can you let me know dates asap so I can apply for the license asap. Obviously as i said previously, should the Army urgently need the area the booking will be cancelled as per the norm for MOD locations, however I always back things up by ensuring I have Ceri Forest or GLyn Ceiriog available in the event this does happen.

Thanks

Ed

LOL, we know the MoD have no problem with WW2 or indeed German uniforms or regalia - is he aware that several WW2 games (and indeed WW2 reenactment events, not least SBG SS only events) have been played on MoD sites?

Anyhoo, 19th is fine!

Date is cool with me. Just the Aeksea farm area is no good to us though, we need more space than that.

Would I be right in thinking that is this becomes 'difficult' (working through a third party, available site area unsuitable, site availability unpredictable, restrictions on kit etc) then the Grafton Park site would be a very suitable alternative - large, unknown to players, central-ish location, reasonable price. OK, only Stephen has had eyes-on so far but looking at the aerial view and assuming all the area would be available to us might it work? It doesn't have areas of open ground to cover and it looks to be all on one level - but there are buildings and open avenues - may even have the option to use small vehicles.

I'd say that, potentially, Grafton could well be the better option. This whole "Evil nazi" stuff that Ed is talking about sounds fishy/ill informed to me. No other WW2 game (ie, Josh's) at an MoD site has had such a rider put on it. Nesscliffe and the Aeksea farm area have potential for plenty of other scenarios though, it's a great site and still worth a recce.

The only issue with Grafton is that it is closed for part of the year because it's used to breed and shoot peasants...sorry, pheasants.

:giggle: Well, let's see the lie of the land with Nesscliffe and, look for an alternative, just to be safe. Or, we can run an entirely different scenario and leave Hut 9 until 2014?

Yes, good plan. Go with the recce then look at the options.

Edit: Close Action can run games to June - there is no other game planned for June so this could be an option to run with Hut 9 and use Necliffe for something else/

OK, recce confirmed for the 19th. I've told Ed we can't confirm anything until we've seen the site.

Hmm, slightly concerned that there are a couple of forecast models showing heavy show throughout Friday which may scupper our recce.

This, of course, may all change...

First time I ever went to Nesscliffe, it was covered in snow, it's quite bleak and windswept when it's like that, I'd suggest wrapping up well.

Also, I can pinch the wife's 4x4 if needs be.

The weather is looking quite iffy at the mo - quite apart from any difficulty of us in getting to site will there be a game running at all? I'm not sure which forum Ed uses for game org from which we can get up to date info.
