I'm sorry if this sounds liek a harsh response but airsofters are fighting tooth and nail to keep the sport legal in this country, the antic youdescribe is eaclty the reason airsoft was/is in danger of a ban or hefty restricitons.

No problem, its just that is something you want to keep quiet about.
A lot of airsoft forums woudl be very rude to you for posting that.
If you're keen to get stared lewis's advice is great, have a read of some of the old topics that look interesting to you.
the kit pics thread is a good place to start as you can see what some of the guys have chosen as their 'look' and see what you like.
And as lewis will probably tell you although it might not be too cool there are some awesome books out their, ask him to have a look at his 'osprey' books on german tank soldiers.
So as your man says, read the old posts for bit, if you have question try a quick search on google firs tan dif you're stil stumped load sof guys on here are happy to answer any questions you might have that you really cant find the answer to.
Its a great hobby and i hope you get really into it.

learn from the mistake mate, and you will be ok, theres nothing hated more by airsofters than chavs with cheap airsoft guns. (not saying your one) 
hope you get in to it, there a great bunch of guys n girls on here, really friendly, and any advice will be given freely, (whether you want it or not
