I don't know why you seem to have turned an 'I want to play' list into a 'Booked players' list - this flies in the face of all that has been learnt over the last five years. Whether players want to play is immaterial, what matters is those that have paid. Clearly taking money off people eight months ahead of a game isn't a great idea, four or five months is plenty.

Therefore I suggest you ditch the list of players, turn the thread into a 'who wants to play' (if you must have one at all) and announce a date when bookings will open - on a first come first served basis. Say 1st February. Everyone then knows the score and no one has an advantage (or more correctly - is seen as having an advantage.) It is entirely fair that organisers pick and choose who attends a game - if you don't want someone to come then you must be bold and tell them so, or structure the sales puff to make it clear that the role might not be for all. For instance, you could say that the US player might not get to fire a shot all day and that command will be strict.

You could try and make other roles more attractive. For example, Craig & Co would make excellent Frenchies - they love role play and sculdugery and aren't particularly interested in gun toting.

Note that you don't HAVE to take bookings as they come in - you as organisers should have the last say in who plays what and why. I did tell you last time Nigel - never, ever ask players for opinions or suggestions. It's YOUR game - people pay to play YOUR game (or not, their choice). Otherwise it looks unplanned and indecisive (I know you are trying to be fair and have the best intentions but from the outside it doesn't look good at all).

People are enthusiastic about this event which is great but chaps are fickle and airsofters seem to be, generalising, very 'sensitive' and it doesn't take much to piss them off. Tread carefully but be bold!

I disagree I am sorry but do respect your point CW.

I still think it is fine to have a list for booking and not ask for money until closer to the event.
Many things can happen between now and June the place could burn down and many people have life ocurances that change their plans.
Having an idea on who is attending on what side is an advantage on this game.
Also with it being posted early may give some more of a chance to get into their character and think about the kit they want to use.
Some are buying £250 worth of AEG just for this event and one person I have put on the list based on that committal he has given this game.
Others are doing similar so I felt we should let them know now if they have a chance to go, it is only fair in my opinion.

As I have said at this point I am not bothered to some degree who is attending on the US side other than a few places, which are pre selected by us as organisers.

The last 7 places 50% are up for grabs by anyone and after posting I withdrew them because I actually agreed with what some were saying, I admit it was a mistake to post the list with only 1 space left but at the point I posted it I did feel some commitment to the fact that possible promises had been made in person to some on the list.

As said above by Tiny I am now damned if I do and damned if I don't what ever way I turned people would shout but nobody would put their head up to agree when it was going their way that is how life is.

At this point the money does not come into it that is just a press of a button over paypal and that can and should probably happen about 2 to 3 months before the event.

We have been forced to post up this event now due to listings filling out for next year and I agree we did have to do this early.

However taking too many bookings by PM and on a promise is not the way to go, I felt it was time to open the booking list and have it in the open.

We have done quite little to promote the US side but lets face it we don't, I agree we need to promote the French side and I am trying to push it but also don't wish to give much detail and spoil the impact of the days events we will plan.

As a team we would like to know who is attending quite early as we feel it is nice to customise the event to them to some degree, I feel people will appreciate this and make the day stand out more from other events they may have been to.

The only problem with the booking list was the US part and many people were always going to be let down by not getting on a list of only 14 which was reduced to 7 or 8 or in the case of all the promises 1

As I said last night the last 7 slots should be up for grabs by anyone after a set date and time and I stick by that
I did say this to Wladek last night before I removed the last 6 guys of the list and I thought he could see my point but he then made a complaint on the thread. I do not wish to fall out with anyone on the forum there has been enough of that on here, one group does not want to talk to an other etc.

Early this year some would not entertain for one second coming to an event that I had anything to do with but some seem to have changed their mind which I am pleased to say.

Anyway I have rambled on enough this kept me up late last night and made me get up an hour late for work this morning

As a footnote the fact that their is this struggle to get onto the list is a compliment to us that they are eager to come.

So the bottom line I see it is that we decide on a date and time we re-open the US list and for how many places I did throw this as on option first to Wladek by PM for Saturday night and he said well they may be in the pub now Ok a bit of a week excuse but what do you say to that not to open a bag of worms.

my thoughts are that we restore the original list as was first posted, or, as a second plan, we bin the booking like i said previous and start again in a few months. i dont agree with the 'edited' us list and wouldnt be happy continuing with that as a plan.

When you get a chance to ring me in the next week or so I can explain things properly how the US booking works & why there are some names on the top of the list you have never heard of.

This game can be created very similar in some way to the movie in that certain people have a set objective so the game is tailored to them but I think you know that from the site visit.
Hence I do like the idea of getting the list sorted out but feel PM's and promises don't set a good standard when others look at us as an event team.

Alex has had a few problems lately no computer for 3 weeks so no internet also other home problems so hence his lack of input. He also has his head set on other things at the moment so I need to have a good talk to him over the line up and see if he is going to have any input on what we are doing.

This is a small problem to put right and in terms of the top 7 on the US list there would be little to change hence why I set them in that order but this needs a phone conversation to sort it out.

I have just been on the phone with Alex for an hour telling him the scenario etc.
Also about the list problem he tends to agree with me on what I felt forced to do.

If I had not made a change after the first 2 complaints it would soon have been 30 complaints not just 4 that came in after the change.

I said to him I even removed him from the US list and he was ok with going French if it came to that as long as he gets to use my sten gun anyway so that may be 3 now for French and I may also have a Woman to make it 4.

I am still happy with Wladek and Yith on the US list and who ever else gets on the last 7 slots or so, but as I said I feel that 50% should be by proper forum booking practices not queue jump PM's as it sets a bad example if not.

I am pleased you have found us on here however for this game the US slots will go fast once we re-open the US booking list.
We also want the US clothing to look close to that of the movie so not Jump Suits.
We have had many people ask for slots on the US list by PM, in fact so many it has already caused one problem a few days back.
Once the booking re-opens there will only be about 7 places left to grab and maybe 30 people after them.

I am still talking over with my fellow organises as to when we will re-open the list and how.
At the moment I think it will be in a few weeks time and may be on a Saturday evening. So it would be the first 7 individual postings on the booking thread that would get on the list.
That is to say 1 posting per one slot, not a posting asking for 2 or six slots.

I have just had an email from Barry Ellis my local re-enactor mate and he says his mate Phil who made the sentry box will come to the game as German but also wants Barry as German now with him.
So that is an other slight change to the booking list 1 slot from US to German but will talk it over with Barry today.
I had been thinking Barry and I could have worn our MP uniforms as the people arrived could also have used Phils swing barrier at the gate.

However I will have too much to be doing for that.

I presume we can re-open the existing thread that CW locked.
I think it would be good to remove the negative postings on there before we do so.
All the postings requesting slots other than US are still valid so don't see a problem with them.
I opt for a Sunday night about 7pm to re-open but we need to post an announcement a week or 2 before hand.

I have just made a few changes on the list so we now have 9 slots open for the US first come first served on booking open time.

Ok I have decided to re-open the booking thread on 27/11/11 Sunday night at 7pm.

If there is a problem with this idea let me know as I plan to announce this on the forum in the next day or so?

I have also started making 6 knockwurst sausages out of Banner balloons, wallpaper paste & news paper.
They should work out quite good about 14-18" long.

I am not sure the best way to use the sausages in the game, for fun we could have 2 sets some with real docs and paintings in and some with fake.
Maybe the FR have to swap the real stuff for fake without the Germans knowing.

I am also thinking about the radar dish, I think I can make it up to 4M wide and 2M high.
This can be done in steel 20mm conduit from work, I can make 2 sides 2M square and then transport them easy and bolt them to a centre mast that fixes to a box with a 12V windscreen wiper motor inside.
The dish only needs to move left and right not in a full circle so much as a wiper on a car does.

I should be able to slow the motor down with a home made speed controller PWM system like I used to use on robot wars.

I am not sure on the price of chicken wire for the dish or how it would look, maybe a better idea is to drill holes in the conduit and zigzag wire up and down through them.

Maybe 3M wide by 2M high is the way to go.
The box to hold it all may be about 1M square made of plywood an old car battery could run it all day if I slow the motor down.
The base of the shaft can sit on an old caster and the shaft just fit through some more pipe to swivel in

Yeah, i'm easy with dates for the booking threaqd to re-open. have you run it by chommers to see if he can unlock it? i cant find an 'unlock' button for the french resistance thread I locked so am gonna have to ask chommers anyway! I'm away on holiday in a fortnight (30th till the 8th) so any site visit then will have to exclude me, butthe 10th-11th and the 17th,18th should be ok for me(i dont think ive got anything pencil'd in anyway).

I still need to work on the FR side-specific video for the game thread, but I reckon that wont be much of a problem cos i can get a mate or 2 to stand in as germans for the massacre
