So who is up for this?
Is the date ok?
Any ideas on how to play it, I have a few to start it off with?

Info on the battle here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_la_Difensa

So we can have Germans/ British and US forces for this.

1st SSF http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_Brigade
56th (London) Infantry Division http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/56th_%28London%29_Division_%28United_Kingdom%29
XIV Panzer Corps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XIV_Panzer_Corps_%28Germany%29
10th Army (Wehrmacht) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10th_Army_%28Wehrmacht%29

So we need to pick out the right hill and have Tank and artillery set up for German use.

Taffy has this on Facebook here http://www.facebook.com/groups/16534668 ... 213571594/

I have just created a Facbook Page for this but don't have a clue how you run that crap.

Here is a map to help with game plan, may grid it out later.

Im more than happy for alex to be on this forum area mate, hes helped at all the events

whilst in principle, im happy to do this, i cant commit just yet.
(To explain, and please nigel this goes no further than our group... its still a work in progress... rooster and Tiny already know the plans as they help out at the sites)
Im now running two sites, about 3 weekends a month, and if my new scheme comes in to play in the next month or two, i will have secured a few armoured vehicles at the quarry. probably 2 x MBT and a couple of Tracked APCs.

Im really considering swapping my job and doing the airsoft full time, but only if the kit becomes available, And its looking more definate every day that passes.

If it takes of like im hopeing, the only time i will ever have for ww2 events will be the ones i actually run.

But i will keep an eye on this game and help if i can, also if at all possible i will come, but it may probably not be possible

Ok preoblems we still have.
1. If we do 10/11th we lose all the local re-enactors as they are off to Yanks http://www.ww2events.co.uk/ that means no second Willys Jeep from Barry.

2. We need 1 or more for German leads if Porta & Tiny are not coming.

3. 10 guys have said they only want to do 1 day not 2 all US 34th inf want to do Sat only. Taffy has said that is ok £25 only for them and £45 for the 2 days.

4. If we move to 3/4th Ste D may not be able to go but he may be able to shift his work rosta, he can go German or US.

5. It is going to be hard to get Germans again I would think.

You shouldn't be trying to tailor fit it around individual people's shift patterns and other arrangements.

By the time the Reenactors pull their finger out it'll all be booked up anyway, at least that's how it's happened before.

Sorry. Just a realist perspective.

Ok it now looks like we have Prideofengland and Marsha as German leads for this just waiting on word from Marsha.

Below is part of a PM sent to Pride.

Yes it will be inclusive but want it tight as possible on kit level the biggest problem will be Taffy's regulars.

I think I can keep the attack a surprise to the Germans if they don't know about maybe 10 other troops that will arrive at the rear of the site and won't be seen.
If it is 34th inf only there 1 day they won't be camping and won't be listed on the booking list  It is up to you not to spill the beans to them though as an organiser you would have to keep schtum 8) as long as we have lots more to do the weekend should be fun for all but getting that to work at the start is a big part, the Germans may be expecting that attack on the Sunday afternoon not on the first morning, as it happens at the end of the movie not the start.

I have to put some thought into booking practice for this if I want some of it to be hidden from view.
5 years back CIA did a Bastone game Gathering of Eagles and part was Germans as US MP's as in Battle of the Bulge but it didn't work as we saw the guys at the start of the day and new straight away what they were when they turned up.

Keeping a secret from the Germans isn't being nasty, they will appreciate the deception much more if it works to plan. Part of it woking depends on picking the right part of the site so that a rear attack is possible and won't be seen until it is near too late.

I also think we could use the system Porta & Tiny are using on their indoor site for lives.
It is a token system each team have 2 boxes and a pre determined number of life tokens they move from one box to the other once they are shot.
It works well and regulates the strength of a force especially if one side is out numbered they can be given more tokens to defend a point without the need to keep traipsing off across the site to a distant regen.

I suggest the dead box is an ammo box with a slot in the top to drop roulette tokens into, the box they take them from should be open so they can keep check on the number of lives left. Using this system removes the need for the medic rule. EDIT (it could be of use for a bandage to still be used and tied on the arm by the dead man as he goes over to the life/dead box he then removes it once the token is deposited this is to stop him getting shot at while he is dead).
If we divide forces on the site then there may be need for 3 - 4 sets of boxes 2 sets for German and 2 for Allied.
People trying to loan woolf will have a problem as they won't be able to find the life/dead box so will end up walking dead with a bandage once shot.

If Marsha agrees to take part I will get Chomers to open my Oddball Games forum section up to the 2 of you so we can plan the event.

NUMBER of troops
If we can get 25 per side that will be good.
Some like 34th inf Sat only want to come 1 day for £25 each, there may be some that can only come Sunday on both German and Allied.
One idea is that each commander takes booking PM's for their side and no open list is visible on the main forum only on our private one.

I know that I've stepped back on this one, but I hope you don't mind me putting in my 2 cents. Firstly I think that Tiny & Portas medic system from the tunnels would work better. It is an immense site and its far easier to keep things as simple as possible, otherwise people get fed up and pissed off with the system.

Also, I don't think that people should be given the option of just doing a 1 day event because potentially you could have a mass exodus on Saturday night/Sunday morning, leaving an undersize force on one side. If it was any other event runner then I feel it would probably be tough shit. You can't book on for one day on a two day event for less.

Also, I do happen to agree about the uniforms...you could alienate the entire WW2 airsofting community who attend if you get it wrong and obviously that reflects on any future events and their potential attendees.

If it is ok with you the 34th inf can come on Sat as it works if they do the rear attack as they don't need to set up camp as they are going home. As a group like Dog Co they can sort it between them and just pay the fee.
There will be plenty for Dog Co and the Germans to do on the rest of the weekend if we get it right.

If DC played Devils Brigade part on Sat they would be camped at the wrong end of the site and have a long walk back to their cars & kit so let the Germans have a shock in the first hour of the game. After that we can run what we want mixing things up.

Red for allied and blue for German
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-CASINO-POK ... 2ec7339933

The 34th inf will probably be dresses in more correct gear than M42 jumps so let them have their fun early on if they can only do one day better to have them than not even if there are more US than German on Sat it can be balanced with the chips.

EDIT
I can use a few of my Kellys Heroes gold boxes for the life tokens.
Maybe the best way is a cloth bag to hold the tokens and take them out and drop them into a slot in the box rather than 2 boxes the bag can be tied to the box.

Welcome Pride & Marsha :happyswing:

We need to sort out a few things, I think 10/11th is the date but if you want to suggest anything else say now.

We need a site visit day that works for us all so you guys say when and I will try and fit in with you as long as it also works with Taffy who isn't on this group.

Any ideas you guys have shout them up on here we want a fun event for all.

OK guys I'm on now :)

Any serious planning is difficult without a site visit as I have only seen pics of the site never played there. Also Im not sure how much thought Nigel has put into it so far regarding the gameplan especially after the attack by the Special Service Force.

Although historically it was only the 14th Panzer Division present I would suggest booking are open to FJ and SS as both fought in Italy and would not look out of place. Also presumably we will try to get a British contingent for the 56th Division. High kit levels - yes, but as inclusive as possible on impressions allowed?

Also if we want to keep the attack of the SSF secret why not Market the game as "The Bernhardt Line" with no mention of Monte LaDifensa so no one draws the obvious conclusion.

From the pictures Ive seen the site lends itself very well to the Italian campaign. Im happy to knock up some props for the German defences, fake barbed wire, dummy minefeilds etc also hopefully will have a tripod for my MG42 by then which can be set up in a sandbag nest for anyone to use, together with Nigels AT gun it should look impressive.

All great ideas mate, but it may be a little late to throw people off the sent with a name change this late as I have it on Facebook also.

Marsha should be on here soon as well.
So do we want a site visit late this month or next month?

Sooner the better for me, untill Ive seen the site its hard to get a feel for it. The following weekends I have things booked already:
13th april - Open day airsoft
21st April - Pavlovs house
11th may - Crete

So if we can avoid them :good:

One other thing Ive noticed, I think its allways useful for the opposing commanders to be in radio communication with eachother, if anything silly starts happening or the game stalls the 2 commanders can quickly work through the problem, Does any one have radio's?

Yes I have a number of PMR's for this, I forgot about them at Dirty Dozen it would have helped, also the token system would have been good.

So would 27or 28th April be good for a site visit?
May go down in the jeep if weather is good, take photos and video of site layout so we can work on game plan. I tend to post up an unlisted video on youtube so we can think the game over.
Previous vids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR3_gfXQS9A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glyFlA--Gp0

I am also at Pavlovs as German I think.

PM I just sent to CJW957

Can you contact the other 34th inf and give me a list of who is up for this 10th Aug.
This is a plan forming that you guys will not be listed on the booking thread, only the game organisers will know about you 8)

You probably will be the rear attack force on Sat morning so you will park at the other end of the site. All kit you need will either have to be toted in with you in game or secretly driven up to the other end of site or a mid site drop position as long as it is secure from ramblers etc.

I presume most of you guys have M43 jackets which will look better than M42 jump siuts?

Wasn't the 34th an Infantry Reg. not Airborne? Either way they will probably have M41 jackets with infantry webbing etc.

Yes inf mate so fits in better for the rear hill attack, Italy had inf in M43 and 41 jackets.
Game is inclusive of Airborne as we can't turn them down, I have 2 M43 jackets I can lend out.

If you want I can go with the 34th inf at the start and you can stick with the frontal attack. Once this is over we can run the rest of the weekend how we wish.
Could have mine clearence mission at night maybe, crawl through a filed of sheep poo with your knife probing for mines. I still have my cord mines that set off 9mm blanks. :giggle:

Could throw in a sceen from Anzio with the tank approaching the bombed out house with the mine field behind it.
You know the bit were Mitchum throws stones to make a path over a mine field.

I just think it's nice to throw classic movie moments into games when you can. :D
