BARBAROSSA

Airsoft Event

Date:

3rd, 4th & 4th September 2021

Location:

Rift Airsoft - The Ridge - MK45 4LG

Story:

Operation Barbarossa also known as the German invasion of the Soviet Union started on Sunday, 22 June 1941. Their ultimate goal included the eventual extermination, enslavement, Germanization and mass deportation to Siberia of the Slavic peoples, and to create more Lebensraum for Germany.

The operation opened up the Eastern Front, in which more forces were committed than in any other theater of war in history. The area saw some of the world's largest battles, most horrific atrocities, and highest casualties, for Soviet and Axis forces alike!

In the opening hours of the invasion, the Luftwaffe destroyed the Western Front's air force on the ground, and with the aid of Abwehr and their supporting anti-communist fifth columns operating in the Soviet rear paralyzed the Front's communication lines, which particularly cut off the Soviet 4th Army headquarters from headquarters above and below it. On the same day, the 2nd Panzer Group crossed the Bug River, broke through the 4th Army, bypassed Brest Fortress, and pressed on towards Minsk.

Objectives:

  • ADVANCE – Army Group Centre and Hoth’s 3rd Army is pushing towards Minsk, a small Partizan pocket has been identified near Grodno and must be eliminated in order for a supply depot to be deployed.
  •
  • DELAY – The Red Army is retreating in order to regroup and have left a few professional soldiers behind with a large partisan force in order to slow the Germans advance near Grodno.

Please pay attention!

Importnant Information from the Site Owner!

HAZARDS on Site to mention in our Morning Briefing:

DEEP Water: This is an old Clay Quarry. Water areas are particularly hazardous due to the soft clay bed. If you fall in, the clay can suck you under! STAY AWAY!
Slipping, Tripping, FALLING Hazards: This land is HUGE and offers a great mix of terrain, however, some areas are VERY HIGH!
Possibility of Hog Weed: It is dying off now but worth a mention – AVOID Hog Weed if seen (we remove what we see and as far as we know, it is gone)

Please mention:

The Site entrance is a little bumpy and NOT suitable for “aftermarket” lowered vehicles. (You can park them lower down the road on the “Flat Area” if required!
A change of clothing (if it is a wet weekend) is HIGHLY recommended.

Rules are Simple:

NO Littering
NO “Wee or Poops” in the Woods! (use the LOO)
NO excessive Fires in the Camp Area
NO excessive Alcohol Consumption
Front Gate and Metal Bar must be locked and secured at all times (Rift Staff will help there)

Leave the Site as you found it!

25th Juni 1941,

My Platoon, or whats left of it, is to be deployed to a hill top near Grodno. Orders from General Hoth are to secure the hill top that is being used as an artillery observation point by the Soviets. I witnessed first hand what soviet artillery can do!

The Luftwaffe have sent us this aerial photograph of the hill? What am i supposed to do with it other than plan? I do wonder if Goering knows what a joke the Luftwaffe is?

At least i can plan on the photo until I have an recent map from Company Headquarters...

We have a Recce section attatched to us and will be utilized for finding the enemy positions, strengths and weaknesses! That will increase the platoons chances of survival.

June 24, 1941,

Today, our scouts discovered a destroyed plane on board which was this photo of the top of our hill. The photo was empty, but obviously the Germans guessed where the observation post was.

I'll be ready for them, drew them in the photo and gave the commanders of the defense and mines!
This observation point strikes deadly on German supply routes!

On the other hand, I was strengthened by the local police today... I'm not sure if they will handle their task...

Booked on as Russian. As it is a bit of a haul from up here I was going to come down on Friday and camp. Do you know what time we can get on site? (and is there some sort of complicated process to get through the gate?)

Thanks

Martin
