[Sticky] Kit Guide: The GebirgsjÃ¤ger

You can not go far wrong with this excelent kit guide recent done by Tim:Whilst we await some pics and stuff from renowned GJ expert Seanebabes I shall briefly say 'what is different in an earlyer war GJ'? The answer is not a lot. Field Grey Uniform, Low/Mountain Boots with puttees and a BergmÃ¼tze. That is our iconic look for the mountain troop. Their trousers were, like the Heer, Stone Grey rather than Field Grey. But as with the Heer Kit Guide we are not demanding people wear these and Field Grey trousers are acceptable. however Hikki now does Stone Grey Gebirgshose herethat would be ideal for all your 1940 Gebirgsjager needs. You may also wear an M35 Helmet (we all know they were worn in battle, so in a way 'should' be worn, but the BergmÃ¼tze is so iconic, and our setting is more 'irregular' so that wearing a BergmÃ¼tze is absolutely perfectly good). You should also badge up as GJ - so Shoulder boards should have grass green Waffenfarbe, and an Edelweiss badge should be on the sleeve. The GJ anoraks/Windjackes/smocks are a trickier synopsis. The common one we tend to see available was issued much later in the war. Most of the pictures I have seen show the GJ in their Wool Uniform, and not adorned with anoraks or windjackes. I have however seen evidence of the Windjacke being worn, by an officer, in 1940. So, the wearing of a Windjacke we shall allow, but smocks and anoraks we shall not, unless I am persuaded by some form of reasonable argument (plus the wIndjacke is such a distinctively 1930s thing to wear it fits perfectly into the setting). Rucksack wise any canvas/leather bergan type mountain rucksack is acceptable if you would like one. See Tim's guide for more info on the rucksack. Ropes, snow goggles and other accessories are positively encouraged. So, what do we require of the GebirgsjÃ¤ger at Copenhagen? Firstly, and you will here this a lot, no camo. It is a Wool era, Field grey and khaki in colour. You Uniform should be German Field Grey. Stone Grey trousers are prefered, but Field Grey trousers are allowed. Likewise the M36 tunic is preferred, but we will allow later model tunics. You should have an Edelweiss badge on your sleeve and Green waffenfarbe. No Y-straps on your webbing, just the belt. M35 Helmet or BergmÃ¼tze. We do not mind if other pattern German helmets are used, but no camo cover to be be used with them. The addition of decals is entirely up to you. Lowboots and puttees. A Windjacke may be worn, but no anorak or smock. any mountaineer accouterments are a great edition.

quick question for tim , but will post here in case anyone else is daft like me

got my jacket trousers etc today , very nice , first time i have used hiki and impressed with the service and no import so win

the jacket comes with shoulder boards , but would they be correct for this game ie should they be the green m36 style or the grey ones correct ?

Well the M40 feild blouse marked the introduction of feild gray shoulder boards so they would not be totally out of place in France 1940. Also Craig, whilst after the 'look' is not being totally anal and is allowing the m40 tunic and feild gray trousers etc. However the 'iconic' (using that word yet again) look for early war is bottle green. I shall be wearing bottle green simply because I think it looks nicer/more right. So depends on how much of a purist you are Chris, personally I would sy for a few extra quid bottle green would be so much better but its your money

A pretty much spot on synopsis.

Many thanks , what i presumed , i have both , but the grey looked nicer lol , but green it shall be rather matchup

i rather be correct and i do have my anal moments (just ask the 34th and helmet straps lol)

now to see what else i am missing as pretty much think it more or less sorted may try and get a GJ larp axe done

M40 tunic first produced in 1938, so perfectly acceptable in 1940. Shoulderboard colour did not always match the collar, so bottle green s/b with M40 is fine, as is Feldgrau s/b with M36. Lots of photo evidence to back this up. :good:

on the jacket would it have a arm patch as well ? i sort of presume it would as seen on great coats but i not seen any photos that show it either way on this type of jacket

If you mean the windjacke Chris then no. Im sure someone will have a picture of one with the patch on, but no not necessary :good:
