http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northover_Projector

Basically a grenade launcher, the Brits had very little left in the way of anti tank weaponry at this time and the Home Guard even less, so several types of grenade launchers were assigned to the HG divisions. I believe there was even a stem powered beastie but even our lot cant come up with that!

We went to Yapton village green today and set up a display of a lot of the gear that we have accumulated in the very short time that we have been airsofting together as a WW2 team. The event was to commemorate those who lost their lives in a massive bombing raid on Ford Airfield in August 1940. As it was a very small villge do they were very grateful for our turn out with the Spigot mortar and the Northover, not to mention the Lewis and the Vickers! We also took all the de-acs along and set out some kit and we all wore the Brit gear that we've got as well as displaying all the airsoft weapons. It went down really well with a lot of the "Old Boys" loving having a look at the de-acs etc. One man I had a chat with for half an hour was telling me that the local kids used to earn candy and pocket money by sitting there for an evening with a box of ammo loading Bren magazines for the Canadian soldiers "A Bloody Rough Lot" before the raid on Dieppe!
It was a fantastic day and if this is any indication of what Sealion is going to be like then it be a smashing weekend for everybody.
We even made BBC local evening news!

If only...... it was our Jeep and those de-ac were airsoft :)

Ahh a quality sunday out. still can't believe the Northover was made in one afternoon - what a result! It was great talking to the people there - loads of interest in the SMLE and No4 de-acts and my sten! i was told on a couple of occasions about the number of blokes who had lost fingertips due to the ejection port slicing them off on full auto. Nasty.

We have the military vehicle guys from the West Sussex Military Vehicle Trust, that were there on the Saturday but on the Sunday they are booked to be in Littlehampton, however another local lot have a display in Aldershot on the Saturday and are leaving there to arrive on Sat night for a beer and join in the social, and display their vehicles on the Sunday! Who else puts on a weekend event where the mil vehicles are different each day?
Also who said airsofters and re-enactors are like oil and water?
We've had a lot of calls at the range from re-enactors who have never heard of airsoft and are really interested in events where actual shots are exchanged! I'm hoping that this will do a lot of good for all down here in the south as it seems that the news about airsoft has clearly not reached this far in the re-enactment community.
Next year's event will be huge

"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."

There is someone on site 24hrs a day for security generally but if it looks like this situation may arise then pm me a couple of days before the event and I'll give you my mobile number, as long as we know about it we can open up. I expect a somewhat grumpy reception if you're planning in turning up at 04.30. I'll probably be onsite by 0700 on the 4th and then staying over.

Fremsley has given you the comfy option :good:

Well, I'm hopeing that it wont come to it, but if I do have to work I could be finishing around 2300 and as I'm up in peterborough it's a fair trek to get down to Ford Ranges, my only saving grace is that I may not be needed but that all depends on the boss, she likes to change her mind at last minute!.

Thanks for all the help guys :good:

I walked the site this evening, and apart from a couple of fields that have yet to be harvested, the site is ready. Think Big open spaces with intersecting ditchlines and hedgerows! I will be placing a couple of the objectives right in the middle of the open fields where determination and speed may be the key factors in achieving them, but there is plenty of opportunity for those with guile and no fear of getting their feet wet in a drainage ditch, to cross the site without being seen.
Had the invasion taken place at around this time 70 years ago, this is exactly the terrain and conditions they would have been fighting in.

The enemy have eyes and ears everywhere and I do believe the Allied team have mechanised support of some kind. This may be false information for the well known English phoney war effort, but there are spies in th Allied camp that will update the High Command if anything needs updating thoughout the event. Sticky bombs anyone?

Thats a bit excessive for bicycles!

To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"

Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.

I don't know what they've got up their sleeve, and I'm running the event! The guys that built the Lewis, the Vickers and the Northover are building something off site, or doing a really good job of winding me up! We will all find out for sure on the weekend

And that, my friends, is why Sealion got cancelled. Hitler took one look at that poster, and knew he'd never succeed! :giggle:
