We've all been toying with the idea of a Pacific based game for some time now,... but I was thinking it might be an opportunity to launch a Doughboys game in this setting.
If we gave people enough time, then a basic Japanese kit could be put together, and the US side wouldn't have to hurry out and get marine gear, as most of fighting after the Initial landings in '42 was done by the Army.
I think the hardest thing would be drumming up the enthusiasm for players in Japanese Uniform.... but the possibilties of future games (such as a british orientated game, Iwo Jima, Okinowa, Tarawa, Saipan....) but be expanded, and we wouldn't have to settle for the Stigma of NW Europe in 44/45.
Yes.. the hardest thing is getting the japs.
I started getting stuff myself as an example but it's proved tougher than I thought. Also other things have taken over the cash priority.
So as a result all I have is some original puttees and a hat, for boots roughouts and water bottle is an NVA one.
Basic jap loadout is:
tan/green uniform (baggy trousers, tunic with no epaulettes)
long puttees (I have original, I've never seen any repros)
brown swede boots (roughouts are ideal) or tabi boots
leather belt with leather ammo pouches. box style. British '03 pattern belts are almost identical. This is for a rifle. I have no idea what they put SMG mags in!
field hat (flaps are nice) and/or helmet
canvas bag and/or backpack
water bottle (NVA (vietnam, not east german) style is a good match)
Weapon... now that is a problem. The main thing would be a rifle (arisaka, in my opinion the K98 isn't too different in looks), there were SMGs in the japs, but they were VERY rare. Far rarer than you see in CoD, where every other bugger has them! Then you have the LMG which looks a lot like a Bren.
There are uniform sets on ebay, but unsuprisingly though they cater for all widths, they're only really suitable for short people.
So it's going to be tough. I recommend we get some games in versus germans.
