The more variable elements of kit... sorry gear.

I was wondering whether it would be an Idea to suggest some unity on the, quite legitimately, variable parts of the uniform.

The one part that springs to mind is the helmet net. in all the pictures I have seen the GIs in the picture have the same sized net each so it might be an idea to say 'medium net' (or 'no net' etc) would be nice.

I do not think it should be a requirement, but thought it might aid in unit 'cohesion' and such.

Don't know if you chaps can think of anything else that would be similar?

You are absolutely right.

From what I understand for us the small/medium net is the right one. Large is for paras?

However this is only for the few weeks/months just after D-Day? They didn't have it before or later.

As far as I know the large net was made from larger cameo netting that the airborne chaps stole, maybe the infantry did it bit it looks 'para' and the other would look more 'infantry', if that makes sense.

The piccies I have been looking at do appear to have most GIs wearing the small netting. Though Lipton says 'meh, the small net looks silly'.

For Infantry, I would look for the tight knit helmet net, tan for early war (ie Africa and Italy) green for D-day onwards.

Medium net is the stardard for paratroopers, Large net is like Craig said "aquired" netting from cammo nets.
