Bank Holiday and all that, It is on the way though, posted it when I took the dog out for a walk, the little bugger just didn't want to go in the direction of the post box as all he wanted to do was go home and get out of the rain.

Well, I went in to the shop on Friday and signed in for this :good: , got a call last night from the Fraud dept of Barclays to tell me that someone had copyed my card and had tryed to buy a £700 worth of stuff from the US :slap: , and FFZ had not yet put through my details, so will have to try and get hold of them to sort it out.

I don't think that it was them before anybody says anything, I have known them all long enough, am just a bit peeved that it was their shop that took my card details last and everywhere else has been secure.

Edit:I have also picked up some ale for a bit of a social Saturday night if you guys are interested?

Cool, because I'm having a stressful week so far and really need this game to unwind, if I start firing my mp40 from the hip with a manic grin on my face, Run!!

Part 1

Free Fire Zone WW2 Game 19th – 20th June.

After Action Report:

15:00

I arrived at the FFZ Bulby woods site at around 1500hrs on the Saturday to find myself surprised at the amount of players that were there, the Lads from AI had turned up as well in their British Commando kit, but to my dismay were only there for a photo shoot (and Gadge has a bad back), the first game was not going to start till around 1830 so I had plenty of time to pitch my tent, get my kit together and chat to some of the other lads there.

18:30

Game time arrived and I was slightly shocked that there was only 6 of us Germans facing off against 8 Americans and 1 lone British Para, nearly everyone was carrying a SMG, with only one Yank with a Garand, we kitted up and received our briefings, we were set to ambush the American convoy near a crossing point, the plan was to wait till their 3 man patrol had passed by, then when their truck had stopped to wait till the tailgate crashed down before letting them have it, there were some tense moments when the foot patrol went past hoping that they did not look in the ditch we were hiding in, then the moment came, the truck engine stopped, the tail gate crashed down, and we let rip with everything that we had, cutting them all down as the jumped out, we extracted fast to our RV point taking our lone casualty with us.

Our next mission was to locate and cover/destroy all the road signs in the area to hinder the Yanks, splitting up in to two groups and moving fast we cover all but one of the signs as we would have had to fight our way through the Yanks to get to it, forgetting the last one we moved on to our next mission, to defend an outpost with some communications equipment in that we would need to hold on to for the following day, an hour went by and out patrols had not seen a single sign of the Yanks, then the first shot rang out, followed by someone shouting Alarm Alarm Americana!!, we managed to hold on till 2 minutes before the end of our mission time before we decided to bug out and leave it for the Yanks ( they had complained that it was too had to get to, there was only 3 of us left by this point though ).

22:30
We pulled back through the woods avoiding the reinforcements returning from the DZ’s, to set up our last ambush of the evening back at the crossing point of the first ambush, we set up in a noisy stance, talking, laughing and joking, making it obvious that we were there, after about 20 minutes we spotted and American Para trying to sneak down the ditch behind us, two of our squad moved to get him whilst the rest of us went on to the alert, we could see them trying to sneak up to our position in the dark but their shapes were catching our eyes when they moved and we cut them down one at a time, suffice to say, none of the Allies made it out of the area alive!.

It was then back to the tents for Food, beers and sleep, talking to each other about the close calls during the game and telling of ditz from other deployments.

Sorry that there are no pics as my camera battery died as soon as I turned it on.

Sundays After Action report to follow.

Part 2

Sunday 20th June 2010

Damn! It was light early on Sunday, but up, washed and fed by 8am, and spent the rest of the time getting psyched up for the day as I had seen our ranks swell to a total of 8 Germans, and the Americans had gained 2 lads from AI in their Brit Commando rig (which looked great!), and there ranks reached at least 12-13 strong, but we were not daunted by this fact and we pressed on for the Father Land, Paul had arrived back with the AI lads to take photos of the action, and boy was there action!.

Yet again we were to ambush the Yank Convoy at a clearing in the woods, we set up in 4 teams, two people on either side of the road in cover so we can fire in to the back of the truck, a sniper in the tall grasses to the front to get any that made it passed and a crew on the light mortar that was set in a small depression to the front, the ambush went off well, bang went the mortar and up we popped, hosing the back of the truck, it was not till we had all met up at the next RV point that I found out that our losses had been high, 4 men down, not good as we would have to face off against the whole Yank force in an all round defence of a trench network, we received our reserves just in time, pushing out our perimeter sentries we managed to keep the Yanks away for some time, once we were below 50% we had to blow the equipment in the trench and bomb burst to our next RV point, many an American fell to our guns, but when the firing went quiet from our trench I decided to investigate, sliding in to the trench I prepared to fight CQB, but to no avail, peering over the lip of the trench I found myself staring right at the Camera of Paul, hopefully it was a good pic!, I found that only John, our CO was left, he signalled for me to Bug out and we scampered away in opposite directions to minimise contacts with the enemy, I was unlucky to get spotted by the AI lads and was shot in the back, more fool me for not checking first and going to ground in a much better area!.

Regrouping at the captured American Firebase we set up our defence, and set the 105mm guns there with demo charges just in case we could not hold on to it, we managed to hold up the yanks with little teams doing hit and run attacks for the next hour whilst another team carried out additional ops, we had an 30 Cal to place over looking the Yanks resupply DZ, to locate the ammo for the 105mm guns and to recover the radio from an abandoned bunker, all were accomplished before the Yanks could attack our main base, we held on for atleast 30 mins before we had to leave because of casulties had fallen so low that we could not blow the guns, but we had held the Yanks off for a long time and hurt them bad, We regrouped and attacked the Firebase to retake it and managed to do it quicker than the Yanks had, we blew the guns and ran to our gun position overlooking the DZ.

With our numbers being so low we knew that a head on fight would hurt us more so we went on the defenceive in small teams, hurt the Yanks and get out fast, but the gun position at the DZ was overrun and we needed to get the radio equipment to a camouflaged pillbox in the tree line near our first ambush point of the day, a deadly firefight broke out with us Germans strung out along the line taking fire from at least 3 different people at the same time, I myself was pinned down by the AI lads and the Brit para using the Yank truck for cover, frustrated that they were unable to get me because of a small dip in the ground was keeping me about an inch under the rounds they decided to grenade my position, and so the war was over for me! With only 4 minutes left till end of play the Yanks managed to take the pill box from our last man standing, but they were very cautious on the way in, it seemed that we had un nerved them some what with our stubbon defence.

I would like to say thank you to John, Frank and the lads from FFZ for running the game, I think that we all had a lot of fun, the numbers were very low but for a first game run in the WW2 era it was very well done, Many thanks to the AI lads for coming along and giving me some headaches, and most of all to all the other players who turned up and played, hope to see you all at other games and also on this forum.

Have to agree it was a good weekend ( but its always good at Bulby woods) the guys at FFZ put a lot of effort into their games and their site
Yeah the numbers were low, but there are a bunch of regular Bulby woods players that have got the WWII bug

Johns already planning another one ( Poss sept game) you've only got yourselves to blame if you miss out :D

Some nice shots there.

Might be worth letting John know that there is an event planned for early September and another for early October that have been in the diary for a while now. These events are likely to open to bookings pretty soon, so many of the forum regulars may have already committed to these if the dates clash.

Scheduled events are all here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1868

I'd say John would be the one to blame if anyone missed out. Next to no publicity and no forward planning isn't the way to fill a game with punters!
