hey all , refering to the kit and head gear i came across this site

and wondered if the maroon berets were suitable for the PBI uniforms?

The Maroon one will kinda do, but the WW2 style ones were much larger and floppier.

Probably be too small, for not much more you can get a good repro from 'what price glory' they have them on sale right now and they are the right size.
A wwii beret should fall over your ear on he side, modern ones have too small a crown.
