Having a few issues badging up my new BD blouse for Crich.
Firstly i cant decide wehter to use printed or woven insig.
The printed is more 'usual' but i think they look shite compred to the woven type and as a plt sgt i'm tempted to go for a 'private purchase' of better quality ones (i have both to choose from at the mo)
The second issue is fitting the staffords, belaphron, airborne, crossed muskets and chevrons on the sleeve. Looking at period photos it seems that it was acceptable to bunch stuff up more than normal to fit it in ( the tip of the chevron should stay 26cm from the arm seam.)
Main dilemma is naf looking printed ones or lovely embroidered ones?

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Well embroidered ones tending to be saved for best BD.
I guess you may be right that printed ones may be more appropriate for a Sgt.
Note I'll be leaving my printed ones on my BD, though if I can be arsed I may redo the stitching to be less red.
Squeezing up to fit everything in is perfectly fine.
Cool
you know when its nagging at you an d worrying you.
I think ill save the embroidered ones for an officers BD in the future.
BTW I have a spare blank BD for this show now if anyone needs to lend one, 44 chest, long arms,
Equally cmparing my new BD (SOF) to my old one, my old one is balantantly not SOF s its a darker shade, slightly better made as well. My monies still on warhorse or kiddle.

Oh I know it's not SOF. I've known that for a long time.

Incidentally, off-topic, but what are the SOF collarless shirts like? I need to get one, and suprisingly, SOF are one of the cheaper places.
If they are the ones i got form rich they are really really comfy
Not totally accurate as they are more cotton than wool.
Only thing is the neck size tends to be far too small so order one or two sizes bigger than you think you need.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
They have no wool in them at all. It's a poly-cotton mix. They look okay.
The reason I got rid of mine to Gadge is that the neck was way too small for me!
No wool?
And why was I not informed of this?.

£45 is still taking the p*ss somewhat for a polycotton grandad shirt.
Nige found some Khaki coloured cotton grandad shirts on Ebay for 15 quid.

yeah, so did i, anyone know if they're close enough to be any good?
I really honestly believe that while the army issues you stuff like belts braces and shirts you were allowed to wear private purchase versions.
Soldiers were frequently sent gloves and cardigans knited by the WI etc so i see no reason why you would not be in receipt of shirts form home when in the field.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Well I have a white linen grandad shirt which Yith said would be OK as a private purchase.
I think Gadge is right though. from the pics I have been looking though recently I have seen what looks to be several different types of shirt worn.
Excellent, £15 ebay shirt here i come, then. Saved me a few more quid towards shotblasting this bike frame. ![]()
Yeah essentially the army issues you a uniform for protection and erm uniformity.
What they cant see they usually dont care about as long as on the outside you look ok.
I mean i got issued underpants and long johns and army socks and t-shirts but i rarely wore the issued ones, even back to napoleonic times soldiers have supplemented their kit with occasional items from home.

You see that collared shirts were available as a private purchase so i cant see why not collarless ones

...... is fitting the staffords, belaphron, airborne, crossed muskets ......
Gadge, not trying to be clever (and it may well just be a typo anyway) but I'm sure you'd be interested to know it's "Belerophon" rather than "belaphron".
Yeah wasnt sure how its spelt, cheers for that.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Whoops it's so tricky I did a typo too!
Should be "Bellerophon" of course with two "L"s.
Perseus would be a lot easier to spell. Why didn't they just call him that?
Oh dear, you have gone and got me googling Bellerophon of which I was blissfully unaware!
I can see why its Bellerophon and not Pegasus though, Pegasus is merely the transport, Bellerophon was the greatest hero and slayer of monsters! (Although he looks like a baby to me
)
