I saw Yith's question about shirts in another forum and wasn't clear from the jumble of answers what the way forward is - what is the shirt and where do you get it from?

ah for officers?

Well I pretty much ended up ignoring most of the discussion.

If you want an officer shirt get a khaki cotton one... avoid all modern materials... just plain old cotton... no polyester at all.

Avoid the collarless ones as they're not fun... and I'm not convinced that the use of american shirts was that common... :)

Interestingly this then means that the one Major gave me when I started is just right... ;)

What's the choice for OR's? i'll be picking up a BD blouse in the near future, and will need something appropriate to go under it. So far it's not been an issue as i've just had the denison to cover up a modern shirt.

White singlet vest, white string vest, or collar less shirt or i dont think any grey, khaki or flat earthy toned grandad shirt would be out of place as a 'home comforts' item.

A lot of socks, gloves, shirts and scarves were knitted or sent from the uk to troops at the front to supplement issue kit.

For ORs its a collarless shirt.

It should be a soft brown woollen pull-over shirt with about 4 buttons. The collar should be round and white. Like a T-shirt collar, but buttoned up. The buttons should be pressed metal.

SOF make them, but they use a woolen mix, that just doesn't seem right somehow.

A lot of the repros have a collar that is too thick.

I use a replicaters one that Syd gave me. Its pretty accurate, fully woollen, but has bobbled badly and I think in classic reliplicaters style the brown dye has leaked into the collar and made it brown.

So there are loads of repros around... but none of them are perfect.

The WPG one doesn't look bad:

The SOF one is pants...wrong material and plastic buttons ( altho some bods used to change the brass ones for plastic ) the neck sizing on them is terrible as well...if youve got a 40 chest then you must have a 13 inch neck!!! You'll soon turn blue looking smart!!
