Text from Josh at Gunman....

Hi fellas, Josh here from http://www.gunmanairsoft.co.uk trying to get in touch with you about running a 2WW event on the 2-4 November 2007 at an awsome live action site in south wales. 4 miles of sand dunes then a fantastic woodland setting thats about 80 acres. We have run airsoft here before and are well recieved. We're looking running with around 200 + players from Sat morning through to Sunday afternoon. As a live action company we have tons of kit and props, the site allows vehicals to be used on it and has very good facilities (toilets and showers) on site.

Would you be interested in running this as a joint venture?
Gunmans homwe site is the Famous Tuddenham Aerodrome in suffolk which is a 2WW Lancaster bomber base. Old biuldings and wicked woodland. Would be very interested in having you chaps come and run a weekend there too. PLease feel free to call. 01223 566569 or 07779 317795

What do you think?

cheers

Josh

I saw his post and was quite interested... then I remembered the discussion about the game he's running in June... the one with "Concentration Camp Roleplay"... That rather concerns me to be honest and I don't want to be associated with it.

However get past that and this sounds totally awesome!

I'd need to be sure there wasn't any bullshitting going on... it does kind of sound too good to be true.

Indeed I am.

Although I have the same reservations as Yith.

Reading his forum earlier I noticed a large emphasis on 'Political Roleplay' for his WW2 game. He then mentions high concentration on political aspects of the war (I'm paraphrasing) which is something I would avoid like a rancid, diseased, hermaphrodite prostitute.

Josh's almost-LARP-events @ their Tuddenham site have a good reputation. He tends to think "outside the box" a bit, and i've not heard anything negative about Gunman at all (thats with my Ai hat on - and believe me, i hear a lot of stuff!) I've read his post on USUCK. His ammo rules (no winding magazines, except for support guns) might tick a few people off, but it's not a bad idea per se.

Running it as a JV could be a good idea. The site itself sounds very interesting. Issues i'd have would be:

1: Loadout rules. Don't want to dilute things just to get the numbers up.
2: C&C. How does he want to run things?
3: 200 people. Thats going to require some serious marshaling.

Certainly worth thinking about, and the 5 month gap between CR and this event should give enough planning time.

Given what he says about the lay-of-the-land with sand dunes and woodland, its got to be the Normandy invasion really!

in having you chaps come and run a weekend there

Looks like he is looking for our input, not bolting onto his planned game so plenty of scope to do it the 'CiA way'

No winding mags would count me out then. I just can't afford to buy any kit in the foreseeable future. Running a mortgage and car are priority for me at the moment.

Having run a 300 player event with 15 marshalls we needed more. Besides, I really don't think we have the player base for 200 people in WW2 airsoft, and as Jay says, we don't want to dilute what we've already acheived.

I always start to get suspicious of games with more than 150 players since running two big games. It just becomes a logistical nightmare and isn't really fun by any stretch of the imagination. In short, it becomes too much like a job, and that's not why I do this.

That's my tuppence-worth anyway.

I also am not happy about the no winding mags rule... It kind off buggers up my sten somewhat!

I have to agree with Steve... I know we're doing really well and all, but I can't even imagine getting 200 players for a game... and I certainly don't want to double the stress that a possible cancellation of the whole event could have caused... As nearly happened on Sunday morning.

200 airsofters in full accurate WW2 kit in South Wales in November... give me a break... I just can't see it.

I think I'd want to be involved with a smaller venture with them first.

I'd be happy to attend... I'm just not sure I want to help run this.

Ok, here's an idea. If Josh could be persuaded to have a smaller event first at that site, to run it as a test for a "big" event say, next summer, would he go for it?

I always start to get suspicious of games with more than 150 players since running two big games. It just becomes a logistical nightmare and isn't really fun by any stretch of the imagination. In short, it becomes too much like a job, and that's not why I do this.

Totally agree. We ran Eurogames for 250 ppl at FireFight 5 years ago, and had 20 floating marshals, let alone the static "objective" marshals. Simply organising the marshaling rota was a nightmare. Two day event, and myself and the other guy in overall charge of it had less than 10 hours off all weekend. And that, we spent sleeping.

Lets find out more then.

When I win the lottery I intend to buy an island, dig caves and do an Iwo Jima event anyway.

I've been playing for 12 years, my time must be up soon.

I don't think there's a system yet designed that could handle Warren's SPG....

Funny isn't it, I assumed Warren was that squat pissed Glaswegian with the period haircut - gobsmacked when I spoke to the 'real' Warren! Bright and articulate chap so I assume he is dyslextic or sommat (or lazy like Gadge :P )

I'd go with dyslexic or perhaps just simply illeterate.

My mothers quite bright but never got taught to read or write as a child (moved between welsh and english schools and often kept at home to childmind the boy children in that valleys way)

Si she can barely read and write but shes a sharp woman.
