"Gooseman"

Or something that isn't from a 1980's homoerotic action movie?

Yup. Although I think the radio message should be in German just with the key words heavily emphasised like a GCSE listening exam.

OK part two

For the sake of simplicity I have referred to each of these attack/defence missions as a 'battle', as it saves time and is clearer.

•the German forces have the ability to fortify the position behind them. 'Dead' Germans may do this and the commander may also detach groups from the fighting to do so, this makes the Germans more on 'the defensive' if they so choose.
It may prove difficult to make the fortifications 're-useable' – especially the barbed wire – as Cassino proved it can be tricky to 're-do' it once deployed – Plus collecting the fortifications between engagements adds to the time in-between them, thus loosing some of the 'continuous fighting' appeal of the system.
How it is determined that each position is taken, and whether there should be a time limit on each mission need to still be addressed. Hoisting a flag is one of the standard ways of saying 'this is ours'. To be done by commanders only, to prevent lone wolfing

The second part has been dealt with, one of the commanders is called forward and they decide if the position is 'taken', no flags. sorted.

The first question, if the German forces have managed too lay down some fortifications in battle 'A', is if feasible for them to remove those fortifications and re-deploy them?

A point to note is that we don't want to have too much of a break between each battle, so it feels more continuous without the need for regen if I remember. If we are ending the battle and then the Germans have to walk out and collect their fortification pieces, which they may forget and carry them back - heavy as they are - is this going to create to big a 'break' between engagements.

We have between 6-8 barbed wire pieces (depending on now many tank traps there are), 2-4 minefields and sandbags.

One way to make the barbed wire more 're-useable' is that we could attach it to begin with and secure the wires together along the length in a few places (which is very hard to explain in tedious words) so it can be concertina-ed back together easier.

Options, to my mind.

1 - we do not use fortifications during this section. we set them all up in the first scenario, for use in the last.
2 - screw it, it'll be fine. We keep deploying them and collecting them after each battle to be used further back.
3 - you deploy them once, and then they remain there until before the end scenario where they are bought back to the fort to further entrench it.

thoughts?

#3... if they can get to move a fortification then fine. However dead players can't move into a combat area to retrieve fortifications.

This will mean it is unwise for the German commander to use all his spare fortifications in his first line of defence... Once the US troops start to overrun them then he's fecked it.

Yes option 3, I think between each 'battle' there should be as much time as it takes to
bomb up. May mean that trigger happy people may find themselves still reloading when the next contact is called. Rather than say 10 mins, the quicker people are ready they can move on.

oh, and Wire wise - yes please Hubert.

Let us know how cheap it is, 2mm thick coils of plain galvanised wire. The stuff we used was about £20 for 200 meters.

no, I have a pair of pliers which can cut the wire... but with the use of force.

I also have a pair of Brit ones that can be used, without the sue of force.

I'll find out the price tonight. There was a catalog around here somewhere but I can't find it now. Chances are if you bought the wire from B&Q its the same stuff since they supply them. I've also asked him to get hold of any scrap wood he can.

Hopefully he might be able to provide us with a raised (flower) bed or two. They're set of interlocking planks that form a square. Ideal for us as you can put them up in minutes, dig out the middle (the opposite of what they're intended for) and use the earth to pack the sides and a few sandbags and you have an instant gun pit. 8)

Do we have some more wire? If not then we will need to order some soon from elsewhere to make sure it is here on time.
