Warren, I am definitely interested in a cheap springer KAR 98 - IMHO, the Tanaka is terribly overpriced, and if one can do without having to gas mags, and all the problems that entail keeping them working, then I'm all for it.

I think I would have to see and feel the end result of your experimentation before I said yes - and obviously know what the price was! A rumour says that there will be a clone springer KAR coming soon - how true that is, I don't know.

I can't wait to come up to your shop Warren, and see where the magic happens. I'd be up for this, I think.

Id very much like a K98 that isnt over priced and useless 3 months of the year, But Im not too keen on the idea of resin/glass fibre.

Dont suppose you would consider making the stock in wood could you?

Had you asked this a couple of months ago I would have answered yes, however I've now aquired all the bits to make my own, (just waiting for my bank balance to recover so I can order the donor gun :( ).

Having said that I think a lot of people will be interested and it'll be a great addition to useable WW2 airsoft guns

Very much so, I`m fed up with buying AEGs, a nice simple bolt action springer K98 would go down well :D
I heard the chinese have put their K98 on the back burner, apparently they encountered a few probs trying to convert a Tanaka model to a springer

In ww 1 & 2 there were gew 98 sniper rifles with 20 round box mags fitted, I'll post some pictures when I get my scanner sorted. I've also got a picture of a 1903 springfield with a 20 round box mag, I'll post that as well.

no comparison atm the de-ack went home at the weekend, sorry,
i,v only got a very ruff 98 bottom stock to compare and of course the length is wrong,

some more info on the infamous box mag,
it was for the Gewehr98, !
in 1917-1918 the Germans attempted to fit a box mag of 20rds, it seems to be removable from the bottom of the action, the main idea was to A-capacity and B-prevention of dirt, from charging with the standard 5rd clip,

BUT alas, it was crap as fare as it had to have such a heavy spring it made the bolt to hard to operate,

in an attempt to keep this thread on the Q & A,s i,v edited out some of the talk about the box mag, perhaps when peter has the pics he can post them over on the weapons threads, and we can continue with the talk about box mags, i thanks you, :)
