as some of you know i allso run the "Hill-Dundee" site,
we hold games every two weeeks for ower regulare members and host a theamed day at every game day, a WW2 day then Vietnam and then modern,

we,r very much geared up for WW2 games in mind, having a nice built up town that over looks the "cliff" that we start games like D-day etc from, we allso have two batterys on site with large ammounts or trenches and bunker/pill boxs.

with this in mind we are going to host the first WW1 battle day at the site this year on Nonvember 7th, (i,m shore this is a first in britain)
we,r going to extend a network of trenches + add more to build two sets of trenches, two lines to form a frount line,
this will give use approx 150-200 mts of trench works for each line, there is allso a no mans land of grass,
there will allso be wire added but not barbed :) but plain wire to form the defences, we use this on all ower defences as we have a rule of not under, over or through, works very well and looks grate..

this "frount line" will to the right of the site with the town to the left, so we can allso use the rest for fluid game play,

a vickers MG is in the makeing and theres allso a lewis in the pipeline as well,

i,m goijg to start to pot together a cheep kit ;ist soon as well, and i,v sorted my own set up as well,

if your intersted in coming up then please do,
andy comment gratefull :)

SMLE,
my prefered personal weapon is my protertype No4 (still going strong)

my dylema is i havant got time to build my self an SMLE so i,m going to produce a SMLE frount site to slip over the N04 frount sight to give a more SMLE profile,
this is going to be cast in hard rubber and will need little alteration to be fitted,

Not half bad Warren. It certainly has the right look and shows what can be done on a budget.

I really am annoyed that I can't get to this one. I've been working on my own WWI kit for a while now (made my own webbing, etc)! I did get to go out in it at FSA last November.
-- attachment is not available --
I've improved it at fecking enormous expense since then!

BTW, those wanting to go the whole hog and get proper WWI pattern Service Dress can get it here: http://www.khakidevil.co.uk/Service_Dress.html It costs about the same as a set of WWII battledress from SoF. They do also do '08 webbing, but the best deal for that at the moment has to be here: http://www.schipperfabrik.com/brit_gear.html

Though even those are the cheapest options I know of they still sting you for a massive amount when you consider you need both! Warren's impression is far more affordable and very clever!

BBTW, for airsoft purposes '14 pattern webbing is more practical than '08, as you can get airsoft springer rifle mags in the pouches... though of course that's even more expensive than '08.

from looking at your picture, your jacket looks to be a lot greener than my converted 49pat BD,
can you add a full leght pic of your self in your uniform if possible please,

on a side note i,m looking for a smle bayonet, this i will cast in rubber etc,
if any one has one for sale or swops them please give me a pm/call,

Heh... Actually I have completely changed the uniform since then. A new hat and service dress. That was a WPG 22 pattern hat, a real WWII economy pattern SD (which was too small) and some post war greek BD trousers without pockets.

My new stuff is a set of tailor made Dickie Knight SD. Here I am in it at the Crich Edwardian Weekend with my son:

Chomley oldified the pic for me!

This is the webbing. I made all but the pouches and belt myself. Since I took that photo that's been improved and extended as well.
-- attachment is not available --

(Soz I don't have a full pic of it yet! I really ought to get that sorted!)

If you want a few more links to WWI kit suppliers I'd be happy to oblige. There's some really good stuff out there!

BTW, don't worry overly about the colour of your uniform for WWI. From what I can gather the serge colour varied massively in WWI.-- attachment is not available --

thanks for that,
glad to hear the colour changed alot aswell.

has any one got any good pictures or personal collection of a german vertion,
be very handy to show the german side of things as well,

we,v got a few WW1 germans building there stuff up atm so we,r all looking forward to seeing how they get on :)

i was thinking of doing a germen set for my self, quite fancy the storm trooper impression including the armour :)

ps, what was the main colour for the grandad shirt, bluey grey or just grey ?
this will help to keep the cost down for other members that cant afford the full jaket,
i,v seen a lot of pics of troops in there shirt, webbing, helmet, on sentry duty, so i think its a good option,

This is the shirt I have with mine. It's certainly more grey than blue-grey. Note that certainly soldiers did use civvie cotton collarless shirts under their jackets, not sure if they'd get away with wearing them as the top layer, but it may be an option.

Nov in just a shirt could be a bit cool. Especially in Scotland!

Don't forget that the leather jerkins are an option for WWI as well. The only real difference from WWII ones are the buttons (should be leather football style ones.)

Greatcoats are also an option, though the WWI is a different pattern from the WWII one.

Just found this on ebay and thought you might be interested Warren.
Its lot of 10 Swedish M59 wool tunics. They make a passable WWI German tunics with some minor adjustments and are pretty well priced at just over £10 posted each. Its what I will be using. Josh is looking at doing WWI as well so even if you don't need 10 he might be interested in a few. Of course you may be able to find some at a better price yourself.

Hi all. I'm a regular hill player and am kitting up as a tommy for this one. I'm one of those guys who likes to get the right kit so I will be splashing out on WW1 battledress and webbing.

Thanks yith for those links. However im still unsure about where to get the best stuff from. I notced that the khaki devil is slightly more expensive than SOF for the battledress. Does anyone think the quality of the reproduction is a factor here?

Also I found the best price for a whole set of 1908 webbing on replicators for £113! Seems almost too good to be true, anyone know if these guys are reputable?

Really looking forward to this! Let me know when the trenches are getting dug Warren, will lend a hand if i'm off work.

ooo great stuff... be prepared to shell out cash!

For WWI you don't want battledress so SoF are no use at all. You want Service Dress. The main differences from battledress being:

1) The jacket has a "skirt" with two pockets like a German WWII one.
2) The buttons are shiney brass GS ones
3) The trousers are tapered rather than baggy and have no field dressing pocket or map pocket
There are of course loads of other differences, but those are the most noticeable.

As for BD (remember that's for WWII only), I've seen the Khaki Devil BD and to be honest for airsoft I think I'd go with SoF as the serge seems thicker and more rugged.

Also I found the best price for a whole set of 1908 webbing on replicators for £113! Seems almost too good to be true, anyone know if these guys are reputable?

No, Replicaters will be shit for this. Don't risk it. If you want 1908 webbing then the cheapest good stuff I've found is schipperfabrik.

But also check out WPG and lawrence ordnance.

Note I have not decided myself which 1908 webbing to finally get. I have 1914 pattern that I made myself and so have delayed that. Opinions on which is the best seem to vary.
As for the SD, my stuff is from Dickie Knight of Khaki on Campaign. It's made to measure and will take several months to arrive. There is no online ordering system, if you want to deal with him then it's by email.

Oops, looks like I stepped into it there. Didn't realise you make a distinction between "battle and "service" dress. I was meaning the 1902 tunic.

Interesting that you recommended SOF for the WW2 stuff so im hoping their service dress will be good too. Hopefully they will taylor to an extent as im 6ft 3 and dont want to order extra large or it'll be far too baggy!

Thanks for the advice on the webbing. I have to say im impressed with your leather stuff. SOF also do the repro webbing now but will compare with your suggestions.

Heh, I just looked and I didn't realise that SOF now do WWI stuff! They have confusingly put it under the WWII section. gah!

It's quite likely they are just reselling other manufacturers items, quite possibly WPG. Though the boots they're selling look a lot better than the WPG ones!

I have no idea on the quality of any of it... though the photos look ok.
