OK, I have been umm-ing and ahh-ing for ages now and I am not sure what Russian look to go for, so I will open it to debate before ignoring you all and finally deciding.

So, the basic Gymnastiorka does look good, but I think I wont look cold enough for a Russian, and I would have it on under the greatcoat so that one sounds mute to me.

The Telogreika does look very nice, and makes me think 'oo a nice cold Russian'. but will it be too warm? Will I die of not actually being a cold Russian in a tragic case of irony?

The Shinel Greatcoat. Does feel like it offers the best of both worlds. Put on to look like a cold Russian bear of retribution... And then take off for ease of thermal regulation. However! It's not that dinky padded suit that I like.

So what on earth should I do interested parties? Help.

Go with the telogreika. It's a constant 10 degrees C at Drakelow, so you won't be too warm (I hope not! I'll be wearing a chuffing great sheepskin parka!).

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

Whatever you do I would definetly say go with a Gymniastorka if you can afford it. Its then your choice whether you go for a Telogreika or Shinel. That would give you maximum flexibilty for future events, gym for summer, telo/shinel for winter. If you get too hot in the winter clothing you can then strip off without frightening off your squadmates.

As to which winter clothing to go for I'm having a similar dilemma (althought I already own a Shinel). The Telogreika is no doubt more practical for playing in and looks good; it just screams Russian. The Shinel however was much more common and can be used for the entire war with a change of insignia (or non at all) where as the design of the Telogreika changed. Shinels can also be used in summer if you so desire as they were still issued as part of the summer uniform whilst Telogreikas were not.

Thats the Ushanka I have. There were many variations but I've seen GPW originals that look just like it. A change of badge and you're good to go.

conflicting opinions!? Well those do not help...

However two uniforms? That would mean I would have three uniforms of the enemies of Poland! I would have to buy another Polish uniform to even it out.

hmm, actually that might sweeten the deal.

Don't think I can get out of this one on a technicality... I'll know it is blatant treachery. :giggle:

Damn straight! I have a nice big furry one on the way. Perhaps not 100% authentic, but I don't care, it is lovely. The only lovely bit of kit they ever produced if you ask me. Hhhmmmmmm... and warm! Pass the vodka, товарищ.
