I dunno, maybe he is right. I mean how many times do the photos modern soldiery pose for revolve around degrees of nudity? (Granted, perhaps typing "soldier cock" into Google is going to show an inherently biased sample even despite the prolific number of results).

Perhaps this is the period equivalent and those fellows are showing solidarity with a 'caught with braces out' Prince 'arry of their time.

ok, so how about these guys...

Rather less casual.

(BTW I of course realise this is WWI, but all the really cool things are. ;) And you may also notice they also both have pith helmets in them... again the coolness factor! )

Plenty of blatant brace wearing there, I just wasn't sure if it was the done thing.

I have however acquired a cheap vaguely brownish jumper ('oatmeal' M&S calls it) which will do to cover any offending braces up.

Cheers

Hose tops are what you really want:

I suppose you could have socks... but they seem so sensible.

I'll be wearing hose tops. :)

Ah, good question Tommy - the thread is not really specific enough, apologies. Any wood-stocked rifle (ammo limits will be fairly low, so SMGs won't rule the roost), Thompson, Sten, Bren, Vickers MG, Lewis gun - heh, if anybody has them. :)

Yes, whether I can find a horizontal foregrip for it is one thing, but I'm definitely getting the spring downgraded by then so I can use the Hop-up without getting an FPS of approximately 400.

Horizontal and Vertical forgrips were in use by British troops in 1941 so both would be fine to use. The STEN had not come into widespread use then so that the Thompson is the better choice for a British Machine Carbine at this period. Having said that my intention will be to field a SMLE on the day.

braces... fine.

Not shaving at the battle for crete would just look a bit odd really. its not like it was that long, the brits had ample water and the only guys who didnt shave in the 40s were the lRDG, chindits and navy (and a few others) but nothing wrecks the brit look more than a middling beard. if you're going to go for a beard be a pioneer sgt and grow a proper one.

Any idea on correct insignia for BDs? I'm guessing Y&L shoulder flash but any divisional patch underneath?

I think it should be khaki slip on titles. Shoulder flashes are later. Out at the moment but I think AoS flashes were only just around and may not have made it to Crete. Not sure on the brigade structure there either.

I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.
