A pair or wire cutters/strippers would definitely be useful :good:

I was also hoping to be a Bren gunner for this one or I'd sign up for engineer or NCO too. Probably not very easy roles to combine.

To Dave: My 'engineer kit' consist of a pair of RE flashes and some wire cutters, but I've done engineer role at games with nothing more than my normal gear and a pouch stuffed with explody things. Wire stripping I either do with my clasp knife or my teeth.

Cheers
Martin

What is going on? As if my indecision over what uniform for Chambois isn't difficult enough Crete has suddenly become a veritable sweet shop; Engineers, Signals and Bren Gun opportunities.

Simon, the answer is of course yes I would love to help dependent on other duties. Dadio and I worked quite a good system at Last Bullet involving the spare mags and the utility pouches making it necessary for the No 2 to stay close to the gunner and enabling pretty simple switching of roles.

Hmm, all this volunteering on my part clearly indicates what a poor soldier I would have made!

From what I have read about Crete communications were particularly poor so I am obviously ideally qualified for recreating that role as signals.

But yes a lot depends on how those admirable fellows at AGS envisage the various roles and the day panning out.

I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.

If people promise to look after them, I can kit out both signals linesmen and both engineers with WW2 and/or WW2-pattern British Army linesman pliers in proper linesman pliers frogs :)

If it helps you decide....

Signals will be very important, the CO will be relying heavily on the intel you provide via field phones to control the battle and plan his strategies. As well as operating the phones and relaying intel, you''ll be checking and repairing cables for breaks. The Cable will be mil spec D10 so good cutters would be a much better option than teeth!

Engineers tasks will not be as full-on but there will be ordinance of various forms to defuse and things to destroy lest they fall into enemy hands. So their ordnance skills may be called upon at any time during the day! You will be expected to man the line with your comrade when not using your specialist skills! :good:

Bren gunners will be the centres of defense, keeping a well positioned bren in action could be key to holding on to a position!

I do also have a pair of wire cutters in a cutters carrier, you can borrow. I was offering linesmans' pliers, and they're still offered if you'd like them as well?

Hi Chaps,

will be attending my first ever game as British. Have ordered some KD's from SOF which I hope will arrive by Friday morning, otherwise I will be in full BD (which is going to be bloody hot, if the weather stays like this!)

Weapon wise I have a M1A1 or a BAR which I can turn into an early type by removing carry handle and bipod.

If you are desperate for more rifles I have an M14 based garand I can use.

See you all soon.

Stu
