Webby has just PM'd me saying he wants to come to the game but doesn't want to do Russian. Matt doesn't have German gear but can borrow it (Lardy has offered) but he asked if there were any other roles such as scientists.
Which got me thinking. This place is a comms centre, stores and manufacturing plant. In which case one would expect engineers (in overalls) and Helfering (crisp white blouses and pencil skirts ) to be knocking about the place.
I think it all gets a bit complicated if we started working out massive specific sub plots for specific people but if, say, a piece of equipment has to be moved from point A to point B then it would be only natural to have engineers/workers doing it under military escort. Likewise message receipt, decoding and transmission would be done by office staff. Non-soldiers could just be allowed pistols for self-defence.
This would certainly make the look of the game more interesting and indeed the 'suspension of disbelief'.
Thoughts?
BTW - Ruskies would all be soldiers.
I think that's fine, as long as we can fill the Russian side first. I'd be wary of Webby reverting to type though and going off on one of his "one man with a pistol" death or glory runs, which would be totally inappropriate for a scientist/technician.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Inclined to agree with Pete. Fill up the Ruskie list first!
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
My suggestion wasn't really to boost player numbers, more to add to the scenario.
The game plans rolling around in my head involve making maximum use of the vast scale of the place and avoiding soldiers shooting at each other for six hours. By having German ammunition stored in remote locations, so reloading only possible once stores are recovered - or engineers having to remove parts to a safe location under armed escort - or signals have to be recorded and decoded for permission to allow vehicle movement - as examples, the tension increases as one thing builds on another. It forces role-play and teamwork.
