Im thinking of getting a pair of these boots off ebay for my airborne impression
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 182wt_1139
I was wondering if it would be easy to scrub down the black and then brown em up? I can also remove the metal lace clips and replace the eyelets using a leather belt crimp set i have already
or these boots

just remove the stupid pouches on the sides and replace the eyelets?
not too bothered that much about the height of the boots as well because I'm a skinny bugger and only 5'4" , real jump boots would make me look like a golf club!
before anyone says anything about saving up and getting a proper pair Im on a very tight budget, getting married next year also I only wear my airborne gear maybe 2 -3 times a year if that
please discuss???
My first jump boots were a pair of old British Army High Legs - I used a sanding attachment on a Dremel and took the top layer off the leather, then using some of the paste type renovating polish made them the correct colour!
Took a while to get right and you have to be careful with the stitching when sanding, but the result was acceptable and lasted.
I think I only paid £10 for the boots from eBay and didn't need to worry about removing eyelets etc.
See here for pics.

I think for airsoft they would be fine with a bit of work. The Brown ones that is no UK size 12 though
I am a big believer in using modern look like boots as they are a hell of a lot safer and not over priced compared to replicas of outdated designs.

cheers fellas, will go for the brown ones and get em a size down
Already have a pair of british army high boots and didnt really want to wreck them
Just need to find a pair of look a like us rough out boots now

nice job on the boots!
If your gonna be wearing thick socks I wouldn't worry about a size down.
In regards to roughouts a pair of brown boots minus the toe cap and as they polished the rough look ou, you should get away with it. i picked a pair off eBay for 8 quid, yeah there not perfect, but they are hidden by spats a anyway.
Here's the ones I got
the high boots I have (8 medium) are a little too big, yet a seven would be just right probably thats why I ordered a 7, other people have said as well that theres plenty of room in the boots i ordered so should be about right hopefully, and at that price I could return em for an 8 if need be
rough outs look good, what style or description did you use in ebay? or was it a lucky search? also whats the grip like on em?
sorry for all the questions!
Not a problem bud. In your case you'll be fine with the jumpboots mate.
It sounds simple but I literally typed brown boot, brown leather boot. There are some that are very much like roughouts, but are low only 20 quid to. When iget home I'll send you a link as I'm at work. Now because the were modern the top was padded, so inside I split the back, only small an removed the foam. Grips are good, rubberized. I this case I was lucky, but there are loads on there. Be careful too cause some look perfect but have a zip up the side (how well this will be hidden I don't know).
that would be great
took me a while to find the boots I ordered, kept finding the right style jump boot, but like you said, bloody great zip up the insides! or they were ladies ones
cheers for the link, already have the light suede pair found them to be tooo slippy, not much grip on em
yeah, only wore them once, ended up on my arse more than a dozen times
brown ESO boots came today! bloody fast post and are perfect!

Men's ESO brown leather oxford
toe lace up military style boots
Style Name: P004
sizes are european so you will have to quote the equivalent
yeah, will do a guide on closer inspection of the eyelets, I think it might just be a case of carefully drilling them out
these are the eyelets I have ordered
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/200-NEW-BLACK-EYE ... 1138wt_905
and some laces as well
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dark-Brown-120cm- ... 2581wt_905
I already have a set of eyelet pliers, these are similar
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EYELET-PLIER-LEAT ... 097wt_1139
just hope they are up to the job, if not, I may order these instead
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Eyelet-Pliers-Too ... 1318wt_905
I sent them an email asking if I could order as I can't read their site.
Already have eyelets and stuff from previous jobs.
Will be nice to see they work you do!

eyelets and laces came, but the pliers I have are def not up to the job! waiting on these to come through now, then I can make a start
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 1330wt_905
drilled out one of the old lace eyelets and the hole left needs a bit of a widening, leather is thick as well and the new eyelets are not as deep as I would like, will try one when the tool comes and see what they are like then, may need to glue them in place so they dont move
Yes you will find you need long reach eyelets and not so easy to find, any cobblers near you, you can try.
Free speech is expensive these days!
yeah, theres a cobblers in Douglas, may go in on my next day off (wednesday) and ask about some
The eyelet I tried was at the top of the boot where the leather is double the thickness, maybe ok with the ones I have further down, may need deeper ones near the bottem though
