Having just read this thread

pointed out by Gadge in the PBI section, I've always been somewhat mystified by the anti-Band of Brothers sentiment that seems to be a recurring theme with re-enactors.
Just out of interest, does anyone actually know what is so wrong with the kit in BoB because I've always thought it was an excellent example of what we should be aiming for?
Apologies if this has been done to death on re-enacting forums.
I think the anti-BoB sentiment is because of the upsurge in noobs and farby people post-BoB within the reenactment community.
There are quite a few things you spot in films, BoB is no exception. It's also a pretty lazy way to reference uniforms. There are no end of good books out there that are also a good read.
For interest in some of the factual inaccuracies in BoB look here too: http://www.101airborneww2.com/bandofbrothers.html
In keeping with the filmsim tradition of CiA games, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
There are plenty of reenactors who attend public events who aren't up to much: http://www.wwiireenacting.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=32386
Check out the Airborne guy with modern glasses for example.
I can't recommend the Trigger Time and Hardscrabble Farm website enough either. Fantastic resources:

On some of the Dutch WW2 forums I see 12/13 year old BOB-wannabees on a daily basis. After trying to educate a few of them you get cranky when the next one pops up.
Most of the kids are in it for "playing war" and that's what rubs me the wrong way. So I've stopped responding to topics made by them. Like yesterday some 12 y.o. wanted to know where he could get a blankfiring weapon...WTF?! ....I don't need that kind of aggro...
Anyway, you saw the same influx of Newbie Rangers after SPR and I'm expecting the same influx of Marines when Band of Pacific Brothers comes out (was already expecting it when Flags of our Fathers was released)
Luckily many of the new guys are willing to listen to the old ones and swiftly improve to higher standards.

I got my Marine gear based on Windtalkers to begin with, because I liked the camoflage...hehe. I then got my greens to tie in with Flags of our Fathers, but I guess it's easily done.
There are inaccuracies in the uniforms from BoB, if you look at the symbols on their helmets for instance...they're far too big. If you want an accurate idea of dimensions for it the spade, it's not supposed to be 7x7inches...more like 2.5. So it doesn't end up like a big target on the side of your helmet.

CRY HAVOC AND LET LOOSE THE DOGS OF WAR
Not many people painted anything on their helmet for that very reason
There are far to many airborne and rangers out there lol should have more infantry like say......... the big red one for example

Originally I was going to suggest the formerly known US Army Group ... which then became the doughboys were to go as the Big red 1. All my kit was badged up as that, but I believe the expression "you just want every1 badged up as your beloved Big Red 1" was muttered a few times. So something neutral like 35th Inf was optioned.... however I think it was only 2 of us at the Hurtgen game who actually came as 35th, and since then we have said anything goes for that very reason.
I still have my BR1 patch in my drawer, and I'm itching to put it on the new M41 that I bought off Ste D.
