You'll end up with something like this: http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/2nd-rangers-impressio/
Though the text is for an 82nd guy, not a ranger... CW!!!
Not really unless you're an officer. And yes, the doughboy pack is the most stupid, insane pack that existed in WWII... to be honest that's one of it's charms, lol.
A viable alternative with the webbing is just to use a cartridge belt (or pistol belt if not an M1 garand) on its own and no pack or suspenders at all.
Just stuff spare things in your pockets...
Lose the suspenders. They're an officer/airborne thing really. A standard GI would have a doughboy pack instead. You'll find even with fairly heavy loads that a properly tightened belt will sit on your hips fine and won't come undone.
For the thompson consider a thompson mag bag rather than the belt pouches. You can keep other junk in the mag bag. In fact if you really want to you can then ditch the whole belt rig and just run with the tommy gun and mag bag.
Of course if the ICS M1 garand is out by the time you're looking to buy a bigger gun you may want to be more accurate and buy one of those!
Yes, only being 14 that can be a problem... Anyway, keep being enthusiastic and you'll get there in the end!
