Are you talking about the Assault vest?

OK, the rangers in S.P.R. were the 2nd Ranger Battalion, and I am not aware of there being an 82nd Rangers. This might cause some confusion for folks as the film focuses on two 'unit types', the Rangers and the Airborne, of which there is an 82nd Division.

However I will assume that you are referring to the uniform worn by Tom Hanks, and not Matt Damon.

The Kit Guides at the top of the page, that you have been pointed to, lists 2nd Ranger Battalion and that is 'the look' of the 2nd Rangers, with all their peculiarities of trouser and footwear included.

It has been a while since I watched S.P.R. so I do not know what 'Assault vests' they had on (apparently they were only issued to NCOs/Officers in 2nd Rangers) or the magubbins that go with it, but I think assault vests are one of those rare/expensive things that are hard to come by.

Not to mention that they were only used for a miniscule fraction of the operations of the Rangers, so in most cases not much use - hence why I know nothing about them.

This is what your talking about. I own the 'At the Front' version in OD7 (dark green) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WW2-Assault-Vest-od-7-Made-USA-/390181774867?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ad8a56613

You'll see that 'Pvt. Jackson - the Sniper' wears it in SPR. This is part of my sniper kit, which is based off this character.

Tom Hanks also wears one, along with Pvt. Mellish, in the OD3.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WW2-Assault-Vest-od-3-Made-USA-/390181774034?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ad8a562d2

Your looking at spending atleast £170 on getting one. Once taxes have been paid. If your serious about getting one id advise against getting the Soldier of Fortune version which is cheaper, as its a horrible colour, and not as nice quality.

I believe they were issued in considerable numbers, but as a last minute thing. So many ditched them upon landing, for being bulky, and uncomfortable. They weren't issued subject to Rank, mainly within the 29th Infantry, but some were also issued to 5th Ranger's.

Btw i dont find mine bulky.

I find it spreads the weight over your back, so you dont end up with aching shoulders. Though on occasions ive got my trench tool on my back caught on objects. I pack area's with foam and additional kit to fill it out, rather than having empty pockets.
