I've got 2 garrison caps and I was wondering how accurate the colouring is and what branches of service the different piping belongs to.
Also how far down on the head are these supposed to sit as they seem to sit a bit high on my head.
The light blue one is infantry (including airborne). I'm not sure about the other.
As for how far they should go on. Quite high up from what I can gather. Just as long as they don't fall off!
The blue is airborne. as for how high they sit, just over right eye brow. triggertime has some good pics of them.

I take it the blue one would be ok for 82nd gilder troops and if so what sort of badge would they use?
i have no badge on mine as i use it for both infantry and airborne

scroll down a bit and there the pic.
Yup. You don't need any badges on it.
Here's a website with details of the ones for airborne.

Personally I have the combined one with blue border. I'd like to get the glider only one with blue border though.
Here is suggested that the red border ones are for artillery. The blue ones for infantry, so get a blue border one.

Imp... a couple of things.
#1 light blue is for ALL infantry, not just airborne.
#2 The link you gave is for PIR and Pete wanted to know about GIR.
Just trying to be helpful!
gee thanks yith. the link was to show how the cap was worn. I am well aware of the fact that blue was for all infantry. also there is information pertaining to GIR, on that site. Or shall we be more anal than usual?
Apologies, I figured you were referring to the badges rather than how they should be worn.
Also I did look and didn't see any GIR stuff on the link. (In fact I just looked again and still can't)
Top one is Infantry piped.I know colours on a monitor arent always 100% accurate but that blue looks way way too blue to me im afraid
The second cap looks like one of the HK/Chinese ones that they used to budle free with an M42 jumpsuit at onetime and think theres a UK seller on Ebay with some.White piping which i believe is total fantasy and didnt exist.
I had a couple of those white piped ones and painted in the piping with some slightly diluted matt emulsion and they looked pretty good but from what i can remember the ones i had with the white piping were a more green shade and of officer type material and not the woolen type material of EM caps-if that makes sense
Officer Garison caps are made of different material completely, more like a cotton with a liner on the inside, whereas EM caps I have seen being wool. The blue piping on your cap pete is fine for purpose, but like taffpara said, should be a very light sky blue.

If they are(they look like)of the type i had they were indeed made of a more officer looking/feeling cotton and had a silk type liner.Apart from the white piping they were very well made caps but of officer quality, believe they were available to buy from PXs so not wrong i guess if striving for 100% accurate
Thanks for all the info it looks like I've got the officer style ones, with regard to the blue piping it is a bit vibirant so I might try colouring the white piped one to get a lighter blue.
I've found the badge that came with it unfortunately the backing is black instead of blue, so it looks like I'll have to wear it unbadged

,yep, definately the same cap as i had, white piping and black backed airborne patch-TOTAL FANTASY
-surely it wouldnt take much for the makers to get these 2 little things right???
Not to worry though, once i painted my white piping blue it was a very nice looking cap(sold it and now have an original )
PS just found the paint i used-it was a while back so no idea if still available but it was a Crown matchpot in the colour AZURE,slightly watered down and applied with an artists brush it turned out nicely.
Best of luck
