This is a quick build log of my 30 Cal.
Built using Aluminium and ABS plastic, with a donor M249.
Not only was this built on a budget, but I have never before undertaken anything like this, and start with literally zero DIY skills. I had never used a jigsaw prior to this. If I can do it, anyone can.
You've made a good start ,I've built a fair number of guns and from my experience the two most important things you need are time and elbow grease , the skills grow with experience and your tool box grows with it ,but without lots of time and elbow grease it cannot be done .

After bluing the alumnium barrel jacket, with Brownells Aluminium Black
A little advice on aluminium black , it wears of fairly easily ,a coat of clear matt lacquer over it will save re applying it after each game.

Thats a good tip, Any recommendations on matt laquer?
I've had varnish crack on me before!
I just used Halfords matt clear laquer , the stuff boy racers use to give their cars the matt look .

Coming along nicely, now painted, bail needs replacing as it is not very good, and I am not too happy about the underslung box mag.
Booster needs making, rear and front sights are needed, and I need to iron out some feed issues!
Feed issues , its only when you build one yourself that you find out how accurate the hop needs to be seeted in order to work .

Urgh, feed issues are the bain of my life. Took ages to sort them out in my MG08/15.

So thankfully I have been able to resolve the feed issues and spent the weekend building the booster cap, tripod, and rear sight bracket!
Feed issues were remarkably easy to resolve, as I have used a lot of the donor guns internals to line up the hop and gearbox. My main issue was to much movement if the inner barrel.

Booster cap is a piece of acrylic pipe with a scaffold end cap. I have also rehsaped the rear grip, and completed the top latch, bolt and other little details!
Added a bail, I know these were only produced in 1945, and are therefore out of scope, for most events, but it makes carrying the thing much easier, and may hide some other more obvious discrepancies!
The Bipod is an M249 bipod, attached to a lighting rig clamp.
Tripod is heat shaped 6mm ABS plastic, legs are 25mm Aluminium pipe.
Found a brass 28mm flanged bearing, which works very well!

Gave the barrel jacket a coat of matte lacquer, and strengthened the barrel assembly significantly. I also changed and moved the rear sight down,.
Just need an ammo tin now!
I also knocked up a pintle, very basic, but does the job!

Now you just have to see how it fares with the ww2 support weapon curse , by lunch time over half the support weapons at any given event have failed ,odd but oh so true .
