I bought a Umarex(WE by any other name, with faux wood grips) Luger PO8 this month. I took it out last game day as a back up and with the intention of using it for 'honesty' shots when marshalling. While they look and feel the dogs bollocks, quite frankly they shoot like sh*te.

The reason for this can only be put down to the 'hop' unit. There is infact no hop rubber in these bad boys. The hop unit consists of the plastic chamber, a chamber rubber(identical to tanaka kar98 and m700 chamber rubbers!) and a screw applying force to the chamber rubber from below. The chamber rubber got me thinking. If it takes tanaka chamber rubbers, why not just cut down a kar98 barrel and fire it in? I found that you're best ignoring the brass spacer that fits over the kar98 barrel, but rather just apply a ring of electrical insulating tape around the barrel and hop rubber to fix it, and apply force(making it a fixed unit). Simply replace the barrel, with hop rubber and chamber rubber into the plastic chamber, allign it, and tighten grub screw, and bobs your uncle, it shoots pretty well. Depending on how much or how tight the tape is, you may need to use heavy weight beebs.

Kar98 hop setup may be useless in a kar98, seem to work well in a luger! :D

After getting it to shoot well, I decided to rid it of the awful paint(that'd flake if you looked at it the wrong way), and treat the monkey metal to make it look a bit more realistic. Also fitted wooden grips - royal pain in the hoop that was! Looks good though!

Its originally a paint finish. The finish I now have is a chemical finish. Strip the paint and use Birchwood Casey Aluminium Black and follow the instructions! Simples!
