Yes it was me. Its not too hard to do but being a high cap you lose alot of the ammo capacity compared to the full sized mag. Mine holds about 150 rounds, however that isn't too much of an issue for WWII games.
Ive refinished my MP44 with Birchwood Caseys Aluminium Black, Brass black and Perma blue finishes.
The gas tube was finished using Brass Black, then I varnished the gas tube using auto lacquer. Because that part is copper, you want to protect the finish; Exposed copper would look BAD. So dont go near this with steel wool.
The front sight hood, heat shield and stock corner plates where finished using Perma Blue as these are the only steel parts on the gun. I oiled these afterwards to protected them.
The rest of the gun including the magazine is aluminium and I used half a bottle of Aluminium Black to blacken them, then steel wooled and finally oiled those parts. Although the barrel doesnt seem to take the Aluminium Black as well as the rest of the gun.
I was actually able to get a decent black, but I figured it would just look like a paint job if it was left like that, and I prefer the "exposed steel" look anyway. So after a rich black finish was acheived, I took steel wool to it.
When using these products you should clean and degrease the part as much as possible, otherwise you will get a rainbow effect.
Steiner - Nitromorse will remove paint from the MP44 its nasty stuff so cover you arms when you do it - the least wee splash will sting. I would leave the gas tube black though.
