i did this on mine 8 years ago and the barrel has never broken .remove the barrel from the gun ,there is a tubular collar in the front of the reciever that the barrel slides over ,i made up a steel sleeve to slide inside the collar to reinforce it .re-fit the barrel ,now when the grub screw on the top of the barrel is tightened it stays tight and you no longer get the flexing that brakes the brackette under the barrel ,i can post pics if anybody wants them.this is more of a prevention than a repair .

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
I have repaired 2 Thompsons for my buddies by now, and I'm kinda waiting for mine to come down..
Seems like an interesting idea, if you have some pics I'd say post em.
here are the photos ,if anybody is thinking of making one then the length is 15 mm, diameter 18mm with a 0.5 degree taper, inner hole 10mm.
hope that the pics make it clearer.

I sense a project in my near future. Is that 18mm at the widest point?
yes its 18mm at the widest ,its a dodle to make on a lathe .once its done the grub screw cant just deform the sleeve on the reciever and it stays tight.
to be honest i didnt do it soon enough on mine and i striped the thread on the grub screw ,but i just fitted two new ones ,one to either side of the original and theres never been another problem
