I'm guessing they must be the Marushin models (or clones of). 8mm is a no-no. Extremely expensive ammo, and if proper rules are observed, they should fire at less FPS than 6mm. Combine that with the heavier weight, and you (should) have a gun with far less range.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier

Something popped up on the Nam forum a few months ago, remember though, most sites wont allow 8mm's and even more arent allowing gas long rifles anymore :(

AI magazine, volume 6 issue 12, did a review of the Umarex P38

"The Umarex P38 is nothing more than the Maruzen P38 model, and apart from the sticker applied to the end of the box by the importer, the packaging is pure Maruzen."

didnt say who the importer was but gave a price of £122.95

All things being equal, not quite. Power in J is what matters in rules, weight or fps are relative to power (power is often expressed as 340fps with 0.2g bb, for example, as this is more easily understood).
Although there are some technical arguments over the comparative air resistance between 6mm and larger 8mm slightly affecting range - not that that should matter much in WW2 games.

Then factor in that the mass goes up more than the cross-sectional area, and an 8mm should suffer relatively less drag.

So travel further, all things being equal? Heh, that's weird! So no disadvantage for 8mm other than availability and cost!
