]well my mp40 came today and with no suprise it was an asg branded not agm as advertised so i thought id share my thoughts and a mod i did to cure a foult i couldent stand.
firstly out of the box it was all in one piece and the packing up to the job of transit protection.it came with battory charger speed loader metal mag and 200 finest china bb's.
battery once charged managed about 150 bb's then went flat, straight in the re-cycling .
charger followed the battery.
speed loader worked but isnt the smoothest but meh its okay.
mag a good fit and fed well
king arms mags are problematic and need that whack to get them in and is on my list of to do's straight away.
gun is paint finish black and has the usual and familiar wobbly stock allso on the list ,more over it was missing a metal pin in one arm of the stock that secured the ally tube to the locking pivot bracket ,this i fitted a grub screw into to secure it .the only other thing was a patch of paint missing from one arm of the stock.
the gun body has an alarming amount of play in it ,i could move the reciever forward and backward allmost 2mm from the rear lower part and also there was an equally alarming amount of twist between the two halves as well.this was my first job as i would never be happy with the gun like that.
my solution was to solve both issues or at least radically reduce them, the arear i focussed on was the alluminium tongue with a hole in that is used to lock the two halves together,i noticed that it twisted left o right and allowed the forward and bach movement that others have fixed with an "o" ring.my solution was to make up a small "u" shaped piece to fit over the tongue that was the width of the opening in the reciever atached with a screw ,this piece also buts up against the front of the rear section of the gun to stop the forward and backward movement.
will uploade pictures of mod later as photobucket is being crap at the moment
overall i was pleasantly suprised ,it was properly put together with no loose screws ,inside tghe gearbox wasnt too greasy ,for some reason there was no motor engagement adjust grub screw fitted so i fitted one makeing it a lot quieter,it shoots 335fps so no need to upgrade although i may do the hop mod at a later date.
so to sum up pretty mutch an exact replica of an agm warts an all ,335fps,king arms mags need a slap to fit and it twists too mutch and has exessive play in joining of the two parts.accuracy with the china bb's was eratic ,will hopefully be better with excel 0.25's.oh and the b attery was a joke.
for the price its still verry good though.

Just to let you know asg is a rebranding company so it is an agm so for all intents and purposes is exactly the same

Looking forward to seeing your solution to the wobble!
Do you plan to dremel the reciever at all to allow for the bolt to move further etc?
not sure im going to alter the cocking mechanism as by removeing the rear piece covering the slot you will expose the battery so im not sure it will improve the lokks mutch.i did the barrel and ak hop mod as well now and it dramatically improves the accuracy so thats a must, for details see Kalashnakof Kids instructions,it also seem to make the king arms mags fit better and has no affect on power witch stayed 335fps but no more eratic accuracy issues.
still trying to get photobucket working ,its temperamental at the best of times but today nothing at all.
another thing i noticed when inside the gearbox is it has one of their lovely teflon coated cylinders in it ,from working on a few agm guns i know that those cylinders are really good, they have a sort of metalic brown colour, cant remember ifive seen them in previous mp40 threads.

If you cut a section of steel pipe to size you can use it to cover the battery and top of the gearbox in there, which means you can have the bolt working nicely and the battery hidden
as for photobucket, I'm glad it's not just me that having problems. I usually use http://imgur.com/ to host pictures for forums, hope that helps!
sorry about the huge pics its all a new shareing site and ill get there in time but im free from photobuchet horay and thank you

Don't forget to add a muzzle nut retainer spring.

Dadio that looks a far better and more secure way that my idea of spot welding the pivot points of the pin on each side of the receiver.. Do you fancy knocking up a spare for me.. I will quite happily pay for your time and materials.. I've got a set of taps to thread the slide rail...

i'd hapily make then up for a modest fee but you would need a 2.5mm drill and m3 tap to secure it,if i made them a little long then they could be file'd to the exact length once fitted.
welding the pivots wont work as the reciever is steel and the tounge is ally and the two wont weld, however you could use a scenter punch to swell the pivots out a bit as its only soft ally, might make a difference and was my first thought untill i came up with the little"u" chanel bracket.
stay tunaed as im working on the stock wobble

That would be great if you could make me one up, I do have drills and taps, just let me know a price.. By the way (and mine may be different to yours) the pivots on the tongue is basically a small steel pin that you can push straight through and knurled slightly to make it a friction fit.. So even though the tongue is alloy it should still be possible to tack it to the receiver..

oh well then there may be some merit in welding them ,i just assumed it was all one piece .price wise probably £5 posted ,i just need to find out how mutch a little jiffy bag costs before i say for sure, will let you know when i get the chance to get to the post office.

that sounds fine, probably worth you measuring the width of the opening at the back of the reciever, mine was 18mm but yours may differ and the better the fit the better it will work.ill pm my adress.

Just got my calipers out and it's 17.7mm so yes 18mm would a nice tight fit once the metal on the receiver has given a bit.. I've sorted out the stamped addressed envelope and I'll get in the post later..

just recieved more supplies of birchwood casey stuff to black an blue my mp40 and they are still useing the super tough paint on the steel parts that is all but resistant to nitromorse .it still comes of but with greatly incresed effort compared to the ally bits.

This afternoon I fitted Dadio's mod to stop the MP40 body twist. While I was at the nut and bolt shop to get the M3 screw, I treated myself to a new 2.5 drill bits to make the job easier and I must say that with bits and pieces to hand (and sharp a drill bit)this really is a 10 minute modification and it really has reduced a lot of the twist.. Together with the O' ring mod there is hardly any twist now.. Any one wanting to alleviate this annoying trait with AGM MP40's it is a very easy and cheap fix.. I haven't tried Dadio's stock wobble fix yet but I will if I get another free hour this month..
