Would anyone have, or could point me to a site to find, detailed design plans for British Auxiliary Unit operational bases..
Have seen a few sketch's of designs on various web pages but nothing detailed.. Basically I'm after architects plans..
I know there were many different designs but details must be somewhere..
Regards Chris.

Thanks for the replies.. The 'CART' and 'British resistance' websites are the main ones I know, I think I will have to email or call them direct..
Just thought it would make a fantastic project to build one. Mind you it will be at the bottom of a long list of jobs on the house, but I suppose that will just give me more to do research and collect materials needed, as and when they might come up, on the cheap..

There's a great book called "Repelling The Invader" or "Repelling the Nazis" which is a picture heavy hard-back book about the 'defence of Britain' which focuses mainly on the anti-invasion preparations, mainly Pillboxes and OBs.

its a crying shame looking at all the pill boxes along the downs near me all rotting away, its such a pity but with so many preserving them would be a huge expense ,they should be listed really .

armoury
m1a1 Thompson,sten mk2,mp40,stg44,sterling,mk2 bren gun,lee Enfield no4 mk1,Mauser Kar98, Walther ppk,smith and Weston m10 and Mauser m712

Some great written descriptions with plans, period photos and unit details, as well as photos of anything left extant.

The Subterranea site is great, I have explored a couple of ROC bunkers after looking them up on the site..
The OB pictures are good, I sort of have some simple designs in my head, but not being a structural engineer I don't want to bury myself under several tons of earth.. Saying that, if I do my research and speak to the guys at the Resistance Museum who built a replica one, not to mention the architect who is doing the plans for my kitchen extension I should be able to sort it.. I'm leaning towards a smaller version of the Ditchling or Staplefield designs seen on the subterranea pics that Diesel Monkey posted.
On the topic of pill boxes, a guy that I work with is a founder member of the Pillbox study group..
http://www.pillbox-study-group.org.uk/
Its only a small website but well worth a read...
Who knows it might even be possibly to arrange a small game using some of them, as they often came grouped together around fields and woods all over England. Bung a local land owner/farmer a few cases of beer and I wouldn't think they would mind.. Insurance would be a whole different ball game I'm sure..

If you do go on the pillbox study group website, scroll down to the advanced pillbox design box and click on the Triumph motorbike pillbox design.. I was grinning for hours..

My garden is to small but my son owns some beautiful woodland in between Guilford and Horsham, which would be perfect..
