Howdy all, it has been quite some time since I have posted on here indeed!

Long story short, I love my AY B.A.R but HATE the magazines, Its not that I have an issue with the capacity that the mags hold (110 which isnt very much at all) or even that they're hi caps.. its just that they're nearly always missfeeding I have 6 of these mags and only two of these work 80% of the time, which is very frustrating in a support gunner role.

can anyone help me with this? advice? ive seen a link that converts them into midcaps using VN mags but not sure if I want to put that much money into these mags....considering they cost $100 a pop ..

thanks in advance chaps

I know your pain. Mine are unreliable as sin too. I will be watching with interest to see peoples solutions. Id love to run my bar with midcaps as its a pain to wind up during a firefight dueto the size of the bloody thing.

I have lots of mags for mine after suffering in the same way.

The problem is that the magazine sits in an outer shell and that shell is easily deformed.
The shell is what locates in the magwell of the gun, the magazine inside has to mate with the hop firmly in order for the little latch that stops the BBs in the mag from spurting out. If the mag sits too low in the outer shell, you get poor contact at the hop.
My remedy, if you can call it that, was to remove the base plate from the shell, push the magazine up inside and refit the base plate having bent the edges slightly in order for it to hold the mag tightly.

I may get round to adding a slither of plastic to pack the base out a little. I think all that would be needed would be some strips of PVC, the sort used in bubble packaging.

If the hop unit is a zinc metal type, get a 6mm drill bit and if the plain shank is new and
Smooth, insert it in the feed hole where it mates with the mag and you can deform it slightly
To an oval shape,do it so it makes more contact with the spring loaded catch that holds the
Bb's in the magazine.
Also insert the same drill shank in the empty mag feed tube and observe how far the spring
loaded catch has to move. The catch will still do its job if you file the catch so it only deflects
0.5mm when the drill is inserted.instead of the usual 1or 2mm movement.

1. Make sure it actually is a 6mm drill.
2. Use a fine file and hold the mag upside down so the dust does not go inside, you can cut
backwards so it cuts slowly,do 3 or 4 cuts,re insert drill to check how much material
you have removed.Take your time.
3. Do not take too much of your catch it will mean you can no longer wind your mag before
You load it in your gun.

If you get it right it will still work and the catch may then move enough to allow better
feeding when in the gun.
M4 mags can have wire used bettween the plastic inner assembly and the metal body, put it
at the top edge,it will push the inner assembly higher up and help push the mag catch back
better.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it's nice to know I'm not alone in this struggle.
Kingmaker I might well look into that its not as though I dont have any "dono" mags to give it a go :o

Another idea I have is to have a better high capacity magazine and keep it in the gun permanently (doesnt have to be fixed in) , with a "feed flap" on the side to reload it with a speedloader...?

I know many of you may cringe at the idea and I know I definitely have as I do prefer realistic reloading but.......T.I.A (this is airsoft) id rather have a working support weapon than a missfeeding 100 round gun
