a little conversion work, the idear(not mine) to do a little face lift on my bren to make it more vz.26 like by changeing the barrel assembly completely.the new barrel will be interchangeable ,the gas block moves to the front just behind the booster cone and the under barrel gas tube extension conects just forward of the bypod this being the biggest compromise but good enough i hope.im in the process of cutting the grooves into the barrel and not finished yet,the grooves are not nearly deep enough, only about 1.25mm deep but the tube only has a wall thickness of 1.5mm leaving only 0.25mm after cutting,im hopeing it will give the impression though,it's got another steel tube inside it for structure.

NO!!!
While I applaud your technical skills would I be very wrong to hope that mechanically this fails and it is therefore unable to be used against me at Sevastopol?!?
Excellent work as always Dadio.
I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.
Nice one Gav You see being German is far more fun technically and we do need the support weapon unless Vince is going to buy one
Cracking stuff Gavin

was cutting the verry last groove and the parting tool bit and chewed up the last inch of outer barrel, luckily i found a photo of a varient with a knurled arear either side of the carrying handle ,not sure of the age but it saved me frob doing the whole outer barrel again (about 4 houres).
also bored out the under barrel "gas tube" to fit snugly and im making an insert that will secure it to the bren gas regulator assembly that will be inside the new gas tube.i need to make it quite well because to mutch flex could be bad news,on the bren the gas regulator is load bearing when useing the carrying handle, meaning that the rear mounting for the barrel could potentially break if there was to mutch movement, hopefully i wont have to do anything ugly to reinforce it.it will all look longer once the booster cone is fitted as well.

looks a lot more finished than it really is,nothings welded yet just proped up for the photo.the booster cone also needs holes drilled in rows of five spaced around the sircumference but otherwise i'm quite pleased with it,its all one piece turned out of a solid ally bar and conical on the inside as well,i ally blacked it on the lath and got a fantastic nearly gloss finish allmost a shame to use it and mess it up,makes sutch a change to the usual trying to black chinese pot metal.

Hoooo yaaaaaaahhh
Lock n load!! Great work mate.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
nice!
nearly done, just have to paint the bits that would be chrome, add a sight and make a little internal attachment for secureing it ,oh and drill the holes in the booster cone.i worried about nothing ,its at least as strong as the bren barrel.is it really 3 months to sevastopol.

Looks excellent, I've always loved the look of the ZB26. I blame Hidden and Dangerous. Are you planning to make any straight mags for it?
i dont know about magazines,at that point it starts to cost money, you see up till now ive used materials that i had laying around so its cost nothing but time.i can't use the internals from the bren mags as the internals are curved so i would have to buy three new airsotf mags and three vz.26 mags and then i'd have to make a new reciever as well probably whitch is doable as its a removeable part.... in short probably not as it opens a rather large can of worms.what i may do is make up a rear sight as they all had the sight adjuster like the mk 1 bren that is to say the type with the large wheel type adjuster and it was fitted further forward next to the mag well.

Some of the Czech models had curved mags the same as the Bren and other the straight mags, I think we can manage with the curved ones and save the expense
Looks superbe!

No, that's a captured BREN. The Germans renamed it/gave it the designation: "7.7mm LeMG 138(e)"

Indeed. The bolsheviks will be too busy cowering in their trenches avoiding it's fire to notice if the mags are straight or curved!
Looks really fantastic Gavin

well its only a cosmetic job,no point going the whole hog on something thats never going to be exact because the under barrel details are wrong for the vz but i think doing the rear sights will give it a srong enough definition as a vz.26 to pass as lookalike for me.ive got a spare stock from a falkland islands vintage bren that i might re-work and give the over shoulder spoon thingy, but this can't ocupie mutch more time as ive got customer stuff to get started.
