What's best, where can I get one and how much?

I am happy to use my 1911 but would love a Browning HP. The P38 I examined at Fireball was also loooooovely.

swith and wesson m10 was popular private purchase (tanaka do one).

other than that almost exclusivley the webley

1911 issued to army commandoes and some airborne units.

Thats it really.

Also seen pics of Canadian manufactured (Inglis) Browning Hi-powers being used by Brit units.

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

The Tanaka Browning HP is a crap gun for airsoft... Its made from very weak plastic and breaks VERY easily.

I'm hoping the upcoming Inglis Browning HP they make is a bit better, but I'm not holding much hope!

Yup potential pistols for Brit troops are:

S&W Victory Revolver (a Tanaka M10 Military and Police is a pretty close look-a-like)

Enfield No2 MkI and MkI* (The MkI is available in PFC from from Marushin. Nobody makes an airsoft version of these.)

Webley (not sure of the version numbers) (Nobody makes an airsoft version of these.)

Inglis Browning HP (Tanaka will be bringing one of these out soon.)

Colt M1911 and M1911A1 (There are loads of airsoft versions of these available)

Note that most British line infantry did not carry a pistol.

Pistols issued to officers senior ncos (platoon sgt and above) and *occasionally* bren gunners.

doh yeah... forgot those.

Drivers tended to have rifles though (strangely) as did radio operators, PIAT teams, 2" mortar teams.

I have no idea what the personal wepaon of a vickers or 3" mortar crew was though, my bet is still a SMLE or no4 rifle

I've been doing a bit of hunting around/research and all of the men in a Vickers team [a Team being no less than four, no greater than 6 depending on field of use] were issued with SMLEs or No.4s except for the gunner who either had nothing (except the tripod he had to carry on his back!) or, rather rarely, a revolver.

I can completely believe that.

except for self defence (and if the enemy are on your in depth MMG positions then you're in deep doo dah anyway) a pistol or sten woudl be pointless for a vickers team as they would be deployed pretty far back in the line.

Indeed. I've been doing the research for the obvious reasons
