Did the British issue Tommy gun have the fore pistol grip ?
The British were issued both the M1928 (a 'militarised' version of the 1928 model) and the M1A1. The M1928s were purchased as a stop-gap, for a usable SMG, before the STEN was created.
These M1928s could be found in a variety of guises, with either pistol or horizontal fore-grips, and with either ribbed or non-ribbed barrels (but either type always with the Cutts Compensator on the end).
The M1A1 models were never used by the regular infantry and such, and were used only by the Commandos and such forces, as they tended to use a lot of American issued weaponry.
A very notable thing about British Thompsons in regular service is that the sling points were nearly always remounted to the topside of the buttstock (for the rear sling point) and to the left-hand-side of the fore-grip, on both types of fore-grip (for the front sling point).

A Tankie's personal weapon would be a revolver.
If you were crew in an lend lease sherman/grant/stewart they had a thompson as part of the complete equipment as shipped from the factory. This was most likely a M1A1 if it had not been nicked by some base wallah along the way. They were so equipped to give the crew somethingto use for a foot patrol, close defence or if you have bailed out.
Later British made tanks came with Sten guns for the same reasons.
