hat off to you chef, both look great. well done
Yup they certainly do!
Is that a mag catch I see on the kar98? Any chance of a closeup?
Both guns look great chef
I also put the original vsr mag catch in my K98 conversion. its was very fiddley and you have to be oh-so careful. Using a section from the VSR stock could well be a better option, will be interested to see how that turns out.
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942
Interesting work there on the mag catches guys.
Last night I got my mag sorted and it now feeds and fires.
The method I've used is the somewhat simpler velcro method that Sgt Heide used.
Velcro on the top of the mag and on the underside of a piece of outer barrel at the top of the mag well. This holds the mag in position and stops it falling out.
However when you want to load you do have to push the mag in slightly. But no worries this is fine as your left hand tends to be in the right place when doing this anyway!
It'll work for now. I have more important things to sort, like the rear sight and top rear wood.
I've joined the stock halves using a long 4" screw on either side and milled out the area for the trigger assembly. Just a note for anyone doing these, It's bloomin tight in there, and it will get even worse if you plan on using a zero trigger on your base rifle.
Umm, I don't understand. It looks like the screw visible on the left side doesn't do any holding. it looks the wrong way around to be holding the butt on.
Good work Chef!
I'm embarking on take 2 of a no.4 project, inspiring stuff!
Chef, where did you get your No.4 woodwork from? It looks like a nice tidy matching set there
