Heh, I seem to remember someone making an airsoft 'flamethrower' that sprayed out huge quantities on cheap .12g bb's.

Question: If I shoot a carefully placed round to your back will you turn into a human fireball?

RE: the short barrel, i think you'd want it that way. if you can have a high RoF, but a short barrel, you get a flamethrower effect, not hugely accurate, but can cover a wide area quickly. it's no use having it hugely accurate, as you'll be firing it from the hip, anyway.

A short barrel with no hop could be a good alternative for a flamethrower, then you could FILL the entire tank setup with BB's and have a good balance between massive close range firepower but poor long range performance.

If you make one... make one like this... Also as seen in "A Bridge Too Far"

If its a good repro, I'll have one for re-enacting... :)

So, basically, it would be a support weapon that you don't have to deploy a bipod and lay down to use and could effectively use 1 handed and carries 2000 - 3000 rounds firing at 270 odd feet per second? Not much like a flame thrower really, is it?

Given the ranges that airsoft guns operate at, you'd really need to have a very short range on an aeg flamethrower but massive firepower to compensate for it and be a close range weapon only (like the real thing). If you have range, accuracy AND firepower, then it's not really a flamethrower but a support weapon without the support weapon rules which offset its' advantages.

Not looking to have an argument here but you need to consider what makes a "flamethrower" or what is a "tarted up support gun".

Exactly. it needs to have a considerable downside for it to not be a gamekiller. if it has a very high rate of fire, it certainly needs to be either not too accurate, not too long range, or ideally, both.

Flamethrowers were indescriminate, so the accuracy isn't needed, and compared to guns, the range wasn't either. Even the capacity limited it severely. From wikipedia:

This was sufficient to propel the burning fuel 120 feet (36 metres). A hose from the fuel tank passed to the nozzle assembly which had two pistol grips to hold and aim the spray, one equipped with the trigger. The Ack Pack nozzle was fitted with a 10-chambered cylinder which contained the ignition cartridges. These could be fired once, each giving the operator 10 bursts of flame. In practice this gave 10 one-second bursts. It was also possible to spray fuel without igniting it to ensure there was plenty splashed around the target, then fire an ignited burst to light up the whole lot.

So, in effect you got ten shots, before the no doubt complex and time consuming reloading.

Ideally, if i was doing it, i'd make one of the cylinders a co2 extinguisher, with a completely separate pipe to the nozzle, giving a burst of 'smoke' every time it fired, just for effect...

We'd probably want to add a rule that ricochets from a flamethrower WOULD count as hits... :)

?

Hehe, just a wee joke there mate, we had a big loooong thread a few months back relating to airsoft flamethrowers, where someone suggested either a flour or water system - which would of course wreck our lovely expensive dress-up clothes!

They were reminded of this folly.

Some of the suggestions made on that previous thread sounded more dangerous than an ACTUAL flamethrower....

dry powder extinguisher in one tank, co2 in the other, mix them in the pipe and PPPPPHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

any one covered in white powder is "HIT", closly followed by the flame operator getting "HIT" by those he got

ive had he pleasure and misfortune to used on others, and be hit by, nearly all types of fire extinguisher
(bored days in the army, soldiers mess about)

heres what they do

Halon,- (now illegal to buy) ive had cold burns on leg/arse at point blank range, and blinded when i was shot in the face from 6 inches (only blind for a minuite or two)
powder - covers in a talc like substance (horid to asthmatics)
co2 - cold as hell, and again cold burns if hit at less than 3 feet
water - cold an wet (bet you didnt know that)
foam - as water , but it stings the eyes and leaves sticky residue, (old ones use oxblood as a base for the foam, so bad for veggies, new foam use something else)

so all types of extinguishers are bad to use, (or fun to use, but shit to recive)

hope this helps

another option would be a disco-style fogger. guaranteed harmless, as it's used in clubs, and i've actually got one knocking around somewhere...

plus you can have the added advantage of the smoke smelling like strawberries! :ghey:
