It's a bit like comparing a Mondeo to a Ferrari really. The Tanaka is a work of art and, a joy to handle and own. The g&g is just a functional airsoft gun and, a bit dull in both quality and performance. There's a reason for the big price difference between the two!

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
the other thing to take into account is reliability ,the g+g has had one major fault rectified already and it just has no history yet and i've heard wispers of hop problems as well,on the whole the tanaka has a good history other than an issue with hop's breaking but you can obtain upgrade parts.its a little too early to tell about the G+G really .the real shame is that G+G made it gas not spring.

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well

Yes if only, guess I will have to do my own springer conversion.
Mate you won't regret it when you buy Tanaka 1 lovely piece of kit

also a tanaka owner, and without doubt, my BEST GUN,, and i own a fooking lot of them

You pretty much have to buy these on the second hand market now, they appear on the for sale section on this forum fairly regular but you may have to wait a month or so

They also command a high second hand value in comparison to other airsoft guns. Be ready to pay £400+ for a good example. Worth every f***ing penny though!

i paid £400 for mine second hand (and it was worth it) , ive seen them sell for 350 to 450 depending on how many mags and scopes they come with ![]()

Well, rather than relying on hearsay or supposition I've taken the plunge and my beautiful Tanaka has now been replaced by a G&G.
First impression? Its a Tanaka. Well, a complete rip off of a Tanaka anyway. Everything looks pretty much the same (as I remember it - really need to set the two side by side) with the exception of the hop adjuster: it seems to retain the stirrup/spring/ball bearing arrangement but has a click adjuster on the side of the rifle instead, which is much more convenient.
I'll be stripping and re-staining the woodwork sometime as I did on the Tanaka but that is just personal preference.
Blimey, the bolt action is crisp and wobble-free - the old Tanaka was much sloppier and rattly.
First impression: not a P.O.S.!
Anyhoo, full review and side-by-side comparison to follow over the days and weeks...

I'd be interested to see if the g&g mags would fit the Tanaka.

Hah! At 50 quid a pop, I reckon you're not the only one, Pete! ![]()

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Let's test a mag swap at Eagles!
Hmm, hop adjuster is a good idea but hop system seems to be as Tanaka (out of the box). I can't see how to withdraw the barrel/hop sleeve from the adjusting unit - hope it isn't glued in. Anyway, reassembled and with hop off the flight seemed good and true down the garden but I'll have a play at longer range at work tomorrow.
I've got two low power and two high power mags - unmarked so I don't know which is which although the striker pin is longer on one than the other. Once sussed I'll have to permanently mark 'em - could make a nasty mistake otherwise!
The G&G mags are £34 or so each, a quick look on ebay shows 8g CO2 at around £10 for 30... erm... 33p each but I bet I can find cheaper with a bit of hunting. But anyway, less than 1p a shot if 5 reloads per cartridge and, at a guess, £1.50 per 100 shots including ammo.

The Tanaka and G&G mags are not interchangeable. I've tried and they're not the same dimensions. IIRC, the Tanaka Mags are longer by just a bit.

Ah. Then the question is - can an adjustment be made to make it fit and if so is it easy or even worth the hassle.
I had a test blat today. At a range of 9.5m I emptied 6 mags before the bulb started giving out and got all 50+ rounds into an A4 sized target area easily. Hmmm, bodes well, I think I may be able to actually hit a body with this rifle!
