A friend of mine was at the Shot Show recently, and had this to say about the ICS Garand:
The ICS is a mess. [Name of person they wrote a review for] wouldn't print it as he did not want ICS to not send him guns in the future lol

Did he and can you elucidate?
I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.

Yes, given the fact here are no reviews except the for shops trying to flog it.
I received this from them this morning.

ICS M1 Garand.
Today we visited the ICS stand at the Shot Show for an update on their ICS M1 Garand, and to make a comparison of the finish and features with the G&G M1 Garand.
The ICS Garand has been in development for sometime and is due for release by mid year.
The ICS features a real wood stock, all metal, zinc alloy, receiver and internals. The barrel is made of ali.
ICS changed from the original 8mm prototype to a 6mm version. The magazine is detachable from the bottom of the receiver by depressing a button and holds 42 rounds.Unfortunately we found that the bolt catch had already failed on ICS display model by day 3 of the Shot Show.
The fps will be around the 350 mark, making the gun suitable for the UK market without downgrading.
ICS state their market for the AEG to be collectors and airsofters. David Tsao of ICS stated he felt the AEG would make a very good wall hanger for any collector.
After a short discussion with other staff, David felt the gun was also lipo ready.
When comparing the finish of the ICS model to the G&G model, in our opinion the collector and serious re-enactor would be far happier with the look, feel and finish of the G&G reproduction.
The ICS lacked some of the refinement of the G&G in the finish of the wood stock, the seals where wood and metal meet, and we noticed that the upper handguard was noticeably smaller in size from the lower handguard wood piece.
Whereas, on the G&G reproduction, these issues do not exist and we could not fault the finish, and the feel was very similar to the real steel feel. The wood stock on the ICS was varnished, whereas the G&G was not, allowing the wood to be easily treated by the serious collector. This means that the G&G finish is closer to what would have come out of the real steel factory.
Finally, the grain in the wood of the G&G illustrated the quality of the finish and the thought that had gone into selecting the wood for the stock. The retail price of both AEG’s is expected to be around the £380 to £440 mark.
I should think for most of you the finish of the wood would be a prime issue.
Yup, but the killer could still be the mags... If the ICS ones do fit in a cartridge belt, well....
If not... then it looks like G&G will win from these reports!
Ok the wood may not be great, but that is probably a fixable issue. The catch release is slightly more of a concern. Possibly a form of alloy? I would like to see one in the flesh. But again it's the performance for me. It's for airsoft, not for reenactment or a collection. One would hope that it's lipo ready. You know I'm going to have to buy the bloody thing and see for myself.

Thanks for this.

...
David Tsao of ICS stated he felt the AEG would make a very good wall hanger ...
Hmm, neither of those statements fill me with confidence.
I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.
Well the bull has been taken by the horns andthe bullet has been bitten... I've just bought the garand from firesupport. As its getting upgraded to 350 fps,it will be with me a week Friday. So we shall see what it's like. So fingers crossed and I shall give you my unqualified review of said beastie. Or be crying into my tea... Oh it's all so tense.
Look forward to that - I don't think someone poking a rifle at a show is worth a candle when compared to a proper hands-on user experience.
No I agree. Regarding the bolt catch. Given the amount of people buggering around with it, the fact it broke can be understood. The main question is one of performance, accuracy and distance. So let us see.

Hopefully this will work. Ah yes it does. Right sadly as its google translate its a little difficult to read but so far the review is favourable. Although I do agree as it is really just an m14 why has it taken this long. But we have a garand and I am feeling a little more comfortable about my purchase
Have none of these people tried sticking the mags in a cartridge belt?
Would appear not. It would be one of the first things I'd do. As soon as I get mine the question will be answered. And if a real bayonet fits as well.
Have none of these people tried sticking the mags in a cartridge belt?
Just fill your cartridge belt with wood or whatever and stick the mags in your pockets.
Yes, cos that's what they did in WWII.
Seriously, of course that is the way around the problem, but not exactly ideal, and not what we really want to do. Plus of course have you tried the pockets in an M41 jacket? They're not very big!
Yes, cos that's what they did in WWII.

Yith, I do understand the 'issue', but, atleast we have, hopefully, a decent M1 Garand. Yes it has an issue with the magazine. But I will take that loss.
And, did they use BB's in WWII? We still play airsoft...
and not what we really want to do.
Then wait and see what the G&G has to offer regarding the magazine.
The impression I get from my friends that handled them at the shot show was wait for the G&G, full stop.
Have linked the G&G on another thread. The only thing which concerns me about the G&G is what seems to be EBB. It will be a unique gearbox where will you get spares from? By also looking at the pictures the mag will work the same as the ICS (hidden by base plate) so i doubt either will fit in to my Garand belt.
Stu
Due to the nature of the way the original weapon worked and the feeding issues surrounding the custom shotgun magazines...I really don't think there should be anyone moaning. Buy a GP ammo bag, put them in your pockets, but don't moan about it not fitting in a pouch when the manufacturers have been good enough to bring us a good looking, purpose made, ww2 era rifle. What else was going to happen with the baseplate when the original gun was a top loading rifle? If you don't like it, carry in using the custom M1s with crapping bob feeding.
Show me a man who will jump out of an airplane, and I'll show you a man who will fight!

Also if you want a realastic M1 and want top loading and to fit clips in your Garand belt go get a Marushin?
Grap all the steel upgrades and a new barrel from KIC and good luck to you sir!
