Would I be allowed to buy a deact mosin nagant (or k98 for that matter), then take it all apart, and drop in a VSR airsoft trigger mech and barrel, or would that count as reactivating a firearm?

:?

Like you, I thought of going down the deac route when wanting an MG42 (deac MG53), I researched the pro's and con's and decided that to be on the safe side I would buy the more expensive zib-replica and convert that. I have always wanted an MG34 and even though converting a deac would be alot easier I have decided to stay on the right side of the law and build one from scratch, better safe than sorry and I wont cause eyebrows to rise when turning up at airsoft events. Contact your local CIVPOL and see what they say, they may be ok with it as I know others have gone down that route.

The only sound advice to give is don't mess about with deacts to convert to airsoft guns. Quite straightforward really.

Yeah, messing around with deacs is generally a big no-no.

Incidentally, I've got a set of Mosin woodwork and metal ancillaries that i'd be prepared to part with, if you're interested. I've lost all interest in being a Commie, so can't be arsed to build one.

Not sure what counts as modifying deacts. The only way I think it'd be legal would be if all you used was the stock. But buying a stock would be a lot cheaper.
Save money and hassle and just work from a wood stock.

you spend the money take the time to build it then the law squash it and arest you to boot on fire arms charges, its your choice but not worth the grief if it goes wrong.oh and wonce you have a fire arms offence under your belt you can kiss goodby to the sport coss you aint allowed near any type of gun other than a bright painted water pistol.its a worst case i grant you but getting the bits (original)then putting them together with airsoft inners and you end up with the same thing the safe way.
